Default Help! Rearview mirror lights won't turn off!

Just got home with the car - New 07 C6 3lt 41 miles!

The "reading" lights on the rearview mirror just stay on for at least 5 min?. They don't go out and I don't want to start off my 1st night draining my brand new battery if for some reason they don't eventually go off. Why do they stay on? How to change this?

I've looked in the manual, but it doesn't say much of anything.

I've obviously pressed the buttons on the bottom - doesn't do anything - they just stay on. Alarm on, alarm off, fob is with me etc.

Guess I'm just tired and not thinking straight.

Any help?

Thanks

John

The reading light goes off in about 15 secs when it is pushed "in"
If you did that the you must have hit the **** by your left knee.

The buttons for the mirror lights should be pushed in to turn them off. In addition, press and release the button on the lower left part of the dash that's used to dim the dash lights. Lots of folks have hit theirs without realizing it.

It's a goofy design and has heppened to me at least twice since I've owned my 06.

We should do a poll to see if there is anyone who this has not happened to. This is one of the most frequent posts on the C6 forum. It amazes me that GM has figured out how silly the design is.

Haven't experienced this. Not sure how this is so "common."

Happens ever time I get my car washed. They accidentally bump the button and I spend 15 mins wondering how to turn off the dome lights...
