Ok, so I did something stupid this morining. I was pulling my C6 back into the garage and I got a little too close to the side and left some pinstripes. Anyone know of a buffer to help clean these things up?
Oh man, did that too on the right side. I thought I had trashed my new car, but in my case, I got lucky. It trashed a small part of the clear bra, which instantly paid for itself.
I use a Porter Cable random orbital and several polishes from Meguiar's to get out most scratches that aren't down to the primer. Works like a charm.
If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, you can't buff it out. It needs to be repainted, since all you can do is lessen the appearance.
You can get paint marks off with the Porter Cable or a very small bit of rubbing compound if you are trying to do it by hand. I wouldn't recommend the rubbing compound though, it's very abrasive and too easy to mess up.
Your best bet is to take it to a body shop and see if they have a good wheel guy that can buff it out.
I'd suggest some white enamel polishing compound on a damp cloth - - start lightly and see your progress - - there's also a rubbing compound that's a heavier alternative. Follow either with your favorite wax . . .

It isn't hard to do. I did the same thing on the right rear where the clear bra was protecting the wheel well.
I backed into that flower pot in front of the museum after we took pictures. Only 6 miles on it. It buffed right out after getting home with a little elbow grease.

General rule of thumb, if you can drag your finger nail across the scuff and it does not hang, you should be able to buff it out. I have not had to do the vette yet, but I have take scratches out of the harley paint topcoat. Use a slow speed buffer, and some Mcquires scratch-x with cleaner, then polish and wax. Oh and a lot of elbow grease.
