I was shopping for a 2007 C6 Coupe at a local dealer. They had one on the lot, but would not let me drive it. Instead, they let me drive a 2002 C5. The C6 is a much nicer car, but I'm curious how the C5 and C6 compare power wise. The C5 didn't feel particularly fast, although it handles very well.
Can someone tell me what the hp/torque is for the 2002 vs. the 2007? Both cars were automatics. I think the 2002 was the old 4 speed automatic, right?

I can understand them being cautious, but I'd tell them to take a hike. Find a dealer that will let you drive what you intend to buy. When you find it and buy it, go back to the lot that treated you like crap, and show them what they missed.
I just sold a 2001 C5 that I bought new. On the test drive of the 2001 I didn't think it felt very fast either, but after driving it for awhile I realized I was just very tenious on the test drive. The C5 is a very capable.
I picked up my 2007 about 1.5 months ago. It is a totally different feel from the 2001 and is faster in my opinion. I drove the 2001 92,634 miles before I sold it and have 2,500 on my 2007. I do agree with the other comment on this thread that you should find someone that will let you test drive it. Good luck with your decision. I have enjoyed owning both.
I think the real SOTP difference will be in the extra 50 to 60 foot pounds of torque the LS2 has over the LS1. I'll find out first hand in 3 days.
The torque is the kick in the ****... I sold my 02 C5 three months ago and moved to a C6. The difference is night and day when comparing the two. But caution! If you can't afford a C6 and can afford a C5, the difference between the C5 and anything you've driven before (assuming normal cars...) will also be night and day.
Remember, with it's numbers, a Corvette C5 is still quicker than 99% of all the cars you will ever run into on the road. I love the C6, but I think people, even on this forum, forget to compare the C5 to the competition when they make their comments. They only compare to the C6.
If I only had $30k in my pocket, and wanted a fast sports car, a good used C5 would be the ticket.
I think the aggressive acceleration feeling is more noticeable as a Vette passenger than a driver.
I drive my Vette most of the time, and feel that it is powerful, but not gut wrenching or out of control. I feel this way about Neon SRT4s and other agressive turbo cars, but as a passenger in other Vettes, I feel the "FAST"
Maybe because as a driver, you know the next move and anticipate it.

Actually it is a know fact that the passenger's seat is 15 MPH faster then the drivers seat. It is one of those great mysteries that the phisics guys are still trying to figure out
How do you compare two cars if you have not driven both? Buy the era that you like the most and buy the newest one you can afford. Good luck, I am sure you will enjoy which ever car you choose as long as it is a Corvette.

Does that mean your passenger arrives before you do?!?!

I traded a 04 a4 Z51 C5 for a 06 a6. I could tell a huge diff in power, also road noise was much less.
As for handling i would give the edge to the C5 z51, since my C6 is a base.
Wow, is this a great forum or what? Thank you all for your great answers.
I'm not going to buy anything from that dealer... they are asking $8k ABOVE MSRP for a 2007 C6 Coupe that I can get from one of the forum sponsors for $6k below. But, since I have not driven the C6, I would be buying it blind. I'm comfortable with that, as I am 95% certain now my next car will be a C6. The C5 is a nice car, but the C6 looks better inside and out, has a better transmission, and is faster as well. If I liked the C5, I am sure I'll love the C6.
