Thanks Ken...looks like they have updated this PDF as the one I originally had said the Mn6 tranny was still the tr-56..no mention of it now.

Also worth a note and I'm a bit confused is the Xm radio antenna is now integrated into the side mirrors? Where is the antenna located on the 2007's?

Default On Star antenna???

Speaking of antennae, where is the one for On Star located? I don't want it but appear to be forced into it this time around.

Upper part on the right side of the windshield. You won't notice unless your looking for it.

Can someone explain the negative OnStar vibe that is throughout the forum? When did it stop being a helpful safety service?

I believe it comeds from the fact that GM effectively forces you to buy an option that some people may not want. Some of these people have a little conspiracy theory about it.

It didn't stop, it's still useful in that capacity if you actually ever need it.
But people don't want what they don't want on their cars and some even have a fear of Big Brother is watching (not a totally paranoid belief btw) and others (like myself) are simply fans of the less is more concept...less cost, less complexity, less weight etc can be a good thing too. This still IS a high performance sports car not a family truckster SUV in case anyone forgot.
I would skip ABS and traction control as well if I could, though standard for years now I've yet to use them either.

Anyone by chance know just how much weight the now standard On Star, XM Satellite Radio and auto dimming/compass mirror will add to the base 2008 car?

Default Mandatory Onstar will be a deal breaker. Whether I pay for it or not.

When the time comes to order an 08 the first thing I'll do , Ken, is subtract what Onstar cost in 07 as an option. This will come off the lowest best deal I can negotiate. Not only won't I pay for it I don't want it on my car. The next deal breaker question will be can it be disabled? If it cannot be disabled it's a deal breaker period.

So, Ken, can Onstar be disabled on the 08? Aside from cost I mean-that's for later after the early buyers are done paying msrp or near to it. I certainly hope the answer is yes and that it's not wired throught the air bag system or emissions system of something else that would make disconnecting it a federal crime. ( like removing cats for example ).

Paranoid? No. I have just been reading about warranty cancellation by GM for mods enough to be concerned. What CAN GM see with onstar about engine 'usage' ? Can they tell if you followed break in rules? Can they tell if you overreved the engine? Can they track your movements in the car? Could your speed be calculated by comparing distance / time between points? Is what they collect subject to court orders to support speeding violations etc? Do you 'own' data they collect about your driving habits and places visited?

Will you get a warranty cancellation notification if your car is 'spotted' by Onstar at the GPS coordinates of a race track and engine performance proves you were 'racing'? hmmmm? What can their surveillance technology really provide?

As for safety many of us managed to survive decades of driving without cell phones of continuous satellite surveillance. Maybe we were smart and careful---and self reliant?

Onstar should be an option and it's not only about the monetary cost of the service.

I don't want my car subject to continuous surveillance by GM. There's got to be a simple and easy vasectomy for Onstar in the 08s. Just a snip snip and it's caput? I hope so.

So, Ken, wadda know? Wishing to be a gentleman and not use any foul language let me just say I'm thinking several choice words and phrases as comments for mandatory Onstar.

If people won't buy a service I guess the marketing brain trust at GM decided to just force feed it to us? Time will tell how many of us manage to avoid the feeding tube.

While I agree with you, I don't think any dealership will have the financial freedom to deduct the cost of On Star off of the car unless they've already padded/built enough profit into the deal at that point. An already good price on the car will leave little room to deduct yet a few hundred dollars more unfortunately.

100%
I bring this up ALL of the time, all of these years we've gone without some of this crap and now all of a sudden people simply cannot fathom, as if it's totally unimaginable and incomprehensible that some people can still do without some of this new technology LOL.
Yes change is good (afterall it did also bring us all this newfound factory power and fuel economy while still maintaining emission compliance as well) and inevitable but can we at least maintain a little tradition and old school freedoms as well?

Onstar is just the next step into invading our privacy. If Onstar can't be disabled then I won't buy an 08. Eventually I feel we will be issued citations via Onstar tracking.

While that is probably unlikely, it is still very possible and certainly a valid concern.

I happily use EZ Pass (electronic toll paying device here in the Tri State area and also in use nationally as well) on both of my cars because they have assured the public that they would never use it to record our time/distance between two toll plazas or even to record how fast we go through said toll booths. But the very instant that I hear about someone getting busted due to having been tracked via EZ Pass it is GONE from my windshield.

In some parts of Texas and Florida it is my understanding that your fear has become reality. LEO's are calculating ET's from station to station and mailing citations.

Can someone tell me what specific colors the 4lt dash comes in? I've read other posts and the answer is not clear to me.

For instance, if I want the 4lt package and the red/black two-two interior, what color leather does the upper dash, etc come in?

Thanks,
