C6 Performance Axle
Hi Everyone,
I normally post on the C4 & C5 forums because I have both. I will be selling my C4 soon and I have been considering adding a C6. I will not do this until next year but next year will be here soon and I want to learn as much as I can about the C6 before I buy one.
What is the standard axle ratio on the C6? My '02 C5 is an A4 with the standard 2.73 axle. I intend to get a C6 with an MN6 and at least 3.42 rear axle. Are there performance packages that I should look for like the Z51? What else?
Thanks for your input.

The standard axle ratio is 3.42 with the manuals and 2.56 with the automatics. In 08 there is an optional 2.73 ratio for the automatics.

So, will you go with a 2.56 axle or the 2.73? I was thinking about buying the same option (2.73 axle). This will be my first corvette and any guidance you can provide would be great.

The original poster said he was going for a manual, so he has no choice in the axle ratio, it'll be 3.42

I do intend to get the 6-speed and the intent is to get the most noticable seat of the pants feel during acceleration.
Eventually whether I buy new or used the idea is to use this one for a weekend driver and I intend to add a supercharger.

This is the kind of info that I need. My '02 convertible has the standard 2.73 gears and teh A4 transmission. I understand that going to 3.42 gears makes a huge difference.

Do realize that the current C6 offers a 6 speed automatic. So both manual and auto are 6 speeds. The auto has a much lower low gear too. When you add in the optional 2.73 rear, it is like a manual with 4.10 rear gears. There are finally high stall torque converters and tuning available for the A6, which should make it a killer for the drag strip, or the stop light grand prix.
I think an 08 with the optional 2.73 ratio, along with a higher stall convertor (maybe 3500-4000 rpm) and super sticky tires (DOT cheaters or slicks) could easily run mid 11s all day long. Someone on here needs to try that and prove me right! (Larry my fellow LS1Tech moderator, are you listening?)

And probably won't even need the 2.73. My 2.56 will do just fine with this 4.02 first gear and a loose converter.

I'm listening! And you are absolutely right. Once a Yank or PI converter comes out for my A6, bye bye 6Ms. Manuals don't have a chance against the an auto with the right sized converter.

Are you still considering getting an 08? I'm trying my hardest to talk you into it, since I can't afford one I want to live vicariously through you!

I really like the idea of a 2.73. My 6th gear is not very responsive. A slightly lower gear should help. Driving in 5th I only lose 2 mpg. That 2.73 may even help mileage as well as acceleration the way the car feels over geared.
