Default Question regarding HUD

I have a question regarding the Heads Up Display in the C6. I have noticed that in the C6's without an HUD there is a panel on the dash where an HUD would be. If you have a C6 without an HUD could one be installed by a dealer and if so what would the cost be?
The reason I ask is this; I currently have a '99 C5 with the HUD and I love it, however after all these years with the C5 I am now getting ready to trade it in for an '05 or an '06 C6. Also I use my vette as a daily driver I like having an auto transmission when dealing with gridlock. I'd really prefer the '06 for the paddle shift, auto tranny. Now here's the thing-I have recently looked at a low milage '05 with the HUD and a good price and also at an '06 without an HUD and even lower mileage at around the same price. I told the dealer that if the '06 couldn't have an HUD installed later (dependant upon cost also) then I would prefer to go with the '05 that had the HUD (and many other options as well).
The '06 auto is also a 6 speed auto while the '05 is a 4 speed auto is that not correct? I think at this point I may be leaning toward the '05 with the HUD and all the other options included in that package (plus the fact that it is a Z-51).
Input and opinions from others is appreciated.

Lots of threads on retrofitting a HUD in a C6. From what I can tell, the consensus is it is way to expensive. I love the HUD with Nav.

It is possible to retrofit a HUD. Most dealers are clueless about how to do it. It would be expensive, about $1k worth of parts plus labor. You still wouldn't have the fancy $2k HUD windshield, but it'll work without that, just slightly dimmer.

Still, if you can find a car with the HUD for $2-3k more than the non-HUD car, you'd be better off buying it than hassling with a conversion.

Default Thanks Guys!

Hey !
Thanks to all you guys with the quick replies. I pretty well expected as much, that it would not be worth it to try and have an HUD retrofitted. one of my buddies had an '02 without an HUD and he wanted to have it retrofitted and even had a cracked windshield replaced with the HUD windshield, then he found out that there was way too much involved to retrofit an HUD. I just wondered about the C6's since the dash had that panel there it looked like it might be more possible.
So that crosses the non HUD '06 off my list. My next question would be how much difference, other than the paddle shift, is there between the '05 4 speed Automatic and the 6 speed Auto in the '06 through '07. Very noticibley smoother shifting, better performance, gas milage etc...?

Other than the paddles, the differences are really minor. The A4 is honestly very good, the A6 may be slightly better. Perhaps very slightly better MPG, slightly better acceleration in some speed ranges. If the paddles don't grab you, there's not much else that makes the A6 a must have.

The below post by Shopdog is correct...however if you are refering to a A4 with 2.73's there will be a noticeable acceleration difference compared to the A6. You referenced a Z51 A4 earlier which will automatically give you the 3.15 perf axle. The 3.15 axle is more comparable to the A6 than the 2.73 geared A4.
