Version 3.0 has been out since last winter, and the next update is coming in a couple of months. I wouldn't buy an older one than 3.0 since there isn't much difference between 1.0 and 2.0. Just my $.02.

I will check the version and the part # when I get home tonight....I bought the '07 last fall.
Someone here in the Forum stated that a major upgrade to the nav disk was coming in July. I think they said they spoke to someone at the upgrade center.
I just got off the phone with the GM Nav update place. The lady said the next update was due out any time from now to August. For the question above, once you put in the newest disk, the old one is no longer needed. There must be a disk in the system for it to work though.
Is it true that once you install the disk, you no longer need it?
No this is not true. The disk must remain in the DVD drive in the head unit. This is the only way to get street level detail and turn by turn directions. You don't actually "install" it like in a piece of software sense. It accesses the DVD much like you would listen to an audio CD or movie DVD.
I suspect the next update disk might be coming out in August. I say this only because I just rec'd a card in the mail from the GM Nav Disk Center offering me the "latest" update disk for $129 (reg. $199 over the parts counter). This special price expires - you guessed it - 7/31/07. They're probably trying to move out the old disks(?).
Now, if it's the new disk, I'll probably grab one.
I got a postcard from the GM Nav Disc Center yesterday in the mail with that offer. I think it's for the version 4 disc that will come out later in the summer, but they could be trying to get rid of their version 3 discs before the next upgrade.
