Default Auto trunk latch question..

Ok, I am new to owning a C6 (less than two weeks)....I have done a search and can't seem to find a answer. I have 2005 Vert. It does not appear the trunk latch is auto or it's not working.

My questions are - What DSO code if any references the "auto trunk latch"? Was that a option? How can I tell if it actually has this feature?

Thanks,
Tim

not sure if i follow exactly.

the release is by your left knee by the gas cap door release.

there is also a "button" just above the rear lic plate, that will release the trunk also. It is under the overhang above your plate.

I think he means the auto-pulldown feature where it latches itself. That feature is not available on the vert - only on the coupe.

Do all years of the coupes have this feature? I saw someone up here with a 2006 coupe who closed his trunk (after showing me how the targa top is stored in the C6 compared to my C5) and it didn't appear to have an automatic pull down feature at all.

If the coupe hatch catches both latches when you close it, it's closed. If you only catch the first latch, the motor pulls it down the rest of the way. No auto pull down on the convertible.

I don't know why it's not on the vert, but don't think you're missing out. I find it kind of worthless. By the time you get it to 'assist' you have slammed the back hard enough that you problably wouldn't have needed it anyway.

I believe it is because of the large hatch glass. Because the car is very "air tight", they do not want you to slam the hatch hard and break the glass. My '89 Camaro had this and I asked the salesman why. He said the insurance companies asked them to because of broken hatch glass.

I agree with you about it not being needed on a vert... I was just curious since a friend of mine that has a 2005 coupe had it. I was wondering if it was tied into some other options...

I think it would have made more sense to have the windows index down when the hatch was open to allow it to close easier than to add the pull-down. My friends M3 had that and it worked great.

I agree that this should have been done from the factory. I purchased a Window Valet for each car that I use to index the windows down with my fob. The indexed windows make closing the hatch so much easier.

I found that the auto pull down only works if a door or window is left open. If not, the car is so airtight that you have to slam the hatch shut anyway.
