I have never seen a group of people that were as helpful as you guys have been. You are all great!! Thanks for being Vette owners. Now, I have decided on the non run-flats, (they were delivered on my front porch today) my next problem is getting a very small, light weight jack, like a sissors jack, that goes from a little over 3 inches up. I think I should need that in order to get a wheel off the ground to turn it and find a puncture. Otherwise, if you can't find the puncture, the plug kit isn't of much value. I know that some of you go with non run-flats and you speak about plug kits. How do you manage to find the puncture?? Once you plug the tire, do you have to take it off and do a different kind of fix from the inside? HELP!
There was a LONG ongoing thread over in the the C5 section about a guy named Frederick over in Germany that was getting a Mercedes Benz jack (I have one of them actually) that worked well (on C5s) for people with that very need.
I'm not sure if this small, lightweight jack works the same on the C6 but I will try and find the thread for you.
Be right back.
Ok, I'm back. There's a picture of the Mercedes jack (also available at a Mercedes dealer, it was standard in the C and E class cars I think) at the bottom of this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...jack+Frederick
And here is a note from the aforementioned 'C5 Frederick', I think he is still performing this great service (for $50.00) for forum members.
Hi guys
I´m still alive, still driving my C5, and still this lift is selling here on the forum. I remember that years ago this Litlle Lift thread had 35,000 clicks.
Up to now I sold roundabout 380 of them.
For all of you interested:
if you want a lift, please pay $50.00 via paypal to:
but ONLY if you are using existing funds in your PayPal account (I cannot accept PayPal transactions funded by debit or credit cards … but you CAN transfer money from your bank account into your PayPal account.
If you do not use Paypal, there is another way to pay that worked fine many times.
Another alternative is the Conti "Comfort Kit". Its a compressor with a sealant tank that can be used to temporarily repair a hole up to about 1/4 inch in diameter. It uses a latex sealant rather than the "slime" stuff found in spray-can type flat-fixers, and unlike those is safe for the TPMS sensor, although it may render it temporarily inoperative. Its available from the Tire Rack, although it takes a little searching to find it on the web site. Around $80 as I recall.
Its small enough to easily fit into one of the rear compartments and should be pretty easy to use beside the road, even on a dark and stormy night (which is mostly when flat tires seem to happen).
Seems to be a well thought-out gadget with the instructions attached to the unit - no fumbling for a separate manual. It includes a pressure gauge and the compressor can be used without the sealant. The latex sealant has a shelf life of 4 years, and the replacement cartridge is fairly inexpensive - $25 I think.
The downside to this is that it is a temporary repair, and you'll have to remove the tire (or at least break the bead loose) in order to clean out the excess sealant and make a permanent repair.
I carry an lightweight and compact alloy jack in my C6 that was used on the old Porsche 944. They are on EBay quite often for about $15. I think there are two on Ebay right now. Just input "Porsche jack" in the EBay search.
However, this jack has a rounded bump on the top where it fits into the 944 frame. I use a hockey puck in which I made a cut a rounded hole, that fits over the rounded bump. Used a Dremel tool to make the recess.
Works great and takes up little space. If I remember correctly these jacks come in two types, and are rated 1000 KG or 1500 KG, i.e. i.e. 2200 and 3300 lbs, respectively. Provided you are lifting only one corner of the car, they should be adequate.

I forgot to mention that this is a scissors jack, Porsche has other jacks that will not work.
Hi guys, I cannot find the jack I need. Ebay doesn't seem to have the jack you guys are talking about by Porsche. They have some for about $100 but I don't think they are the right jack. Tire Rack said the Comfortkit is not recommended for my car. Can't find the Harbor Freight jack one fellow mentioned. What a mess. I must be doing everything wrong. Can someone help, please.
Did you look at the thread I posted above for a photo of the actual Mercedes jack in question?
Any thoughts on it?
You very likely will not find that particular Mercedes jack on ebay...you WILL find it at the Mercedes Benz (ask for the little (late model) E class jack) parts department though (providing that you're simply not willing to deal with a trusted/helpful forum member living in Germany and ARE willing to pay much more for it).
The other jack from Harbor Freight and such might be floor jacks only, not meant to be carried in the car full time.

There is one on EBay right now. Search "Porsche jacK' and you will find "944 aluminium jack with handle" Current bid is $5. These things are always on EBay, just wait a few days and more will appear.
chevy truck jack, from the 80's or 90's---very low profile for rocker panel jacking points. Don't forget the extendable lug wrench as well. See my DIY post

I don't seem to be able to get a reply (email) from any regarding where to get either of the jacks in question, the Mercedes or the one that "Fredrick" is selling for $50.
