Default Quick important question about registration.

I bought a ZO6 out of state. It should be here today(hopefully). Being that I havent paid my state(NY) taxes on the car yet, does the dealer provide me with a temporary registration? I hope I can drive it. I mean I still have my C6 plates to put on, but I dont have any windsheild stickers. Any help?

They should've put temporary stickers on there. I think it depends if you bought it cash too.

Anybody else?

Can't really help with NY but in Washington you can not register a vehcile until DMV has the paperwork. No temp plates for out of state sales.

Purchased my C6 in Oregon and ran for three (3) weeks with no temp tag or plates. When I asked WA DMV they said that I was doing this at my own risk. Luckly, I know most of the LEO's in this area and they knew me.

Three weeks laster got a call from DMV, the paperwork was and and they wanted $3,000.

Sorry that I could help more. Best of luck

If you're getting it thru a dealer, you should've paid your taxes thru there. They will issue you a temp registration and new plates if you need them,or they will transfer the plates off of your trade in/some other car,and use those, again w/a temp reg.Your insurance,if not open today, will cover you on the new car till Monday when you call and transfer the insurance over.

The insurance has been done and effective for 3 days now. I didnt pay taxes to them because its Missouri and I live in NY. I'll pay them at the DMV when I get the cash and the opportunity. Thank god I had a trade and saved $3,300! I just need to know if the selling dealer will provide me with something to drive my car, or I'll go nuts just watching it sit. I still have the plates to my C6, so I can put them on, but I still need inspection and reg. windsheild tags. This sux!

I guess that the best source for information about whether the selling dealer will provide you with something to drive your car might be THE SELLING DEALER. It might also have been prudent if you asked these questions either prior to or no later than the time you signed the deal.

I purchased my car out of state and the selling dealer sent me temp tag from his state, as far as NY is concerned its just another out of state car,
when the paperwork is ready in NY put on your old tag and your good to go. Perfectally legal.... and good luck on the new Vette.

The selling dealed should send you the following, if he didn't call him and have him over night it to you.

1: Temp tag from his state. Put it on the car and drive it, perfectally legal
2: MSO cert, needed to reg car in NY.
3: Bill of sale. Used by NY to Calc sales tax
4: Any loan papers. and misc paper work.

When the car comes do the following

1: put on temp tag and drive it like you stole it.
2: Take the above documents and your old NY Tag to the DMV
pay the tax due. They will transfer your old tag to the new car.
3: Remove temp tag put on NY Tag and drive it like you stole it.

It is quicker for you to do the paperwork with the DMV, then to let the dealer do it, maybe cheaper and less chance of a screwup.......

Once again, and drive it like you stole it.

Mine is due to arrive here in Rockland County, NY from Montana today or tomorrow. The dealer installed temp tags and sent the paperwork. There was no trade so I'm on the hook for the whole sales tax amount when I go to DMV. It's a bit under $5000. Ouch.

You need to complete form DTF-802 for the sales tax.
For the registration, use form MV-82.

The forms are here: http://www.nysdmv.com/forms.htm

You can fill them in on your computer and then print them.

Your Bill of Sale and MSO(Title) will be all that you need. Just don't wait around to register it in NY. Get it done immediately when you get the car back into NY.

I bought mine in NH (live in PA). You won't get the registration until you pay the tax.

the temp. tags should be given to you from the out of state dealer, these will be good for 30 days, dont, and i repeat dont put your other plates on your new vett. if your stoped by the popo, for any reason, you will be ticketed for unregistered vehcile, and switched plates, beleive me, ive given out enough of these, to last a life time, with your checkbook, go to dmv, and pay the tax on your vehicle, they willhand you your new plates on the spot, place them on your new vette, and drive the hell out of it.....
