Can a person skip from the 05 Nav disk to an upgrade 07 disk w/o upgrading other earlier upgrades?

Yes - there isn't really an "Upgrade" as in upgraded software. It is just new data.

Although you can upgrade the software to accept MP3. That is done at the dealer or a download from folks here.

Take a look at this old thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...4&page=8&pp=20

In post# 152, Abrimberry has links to ISO images of the discs as well as the files.

I downloaded these and burned my own discs 1-1/2 years ago and it's great to be able to burn my own MP3 discs with 150 tracks and play them in my car - you don't need a multi-CD player at all.

BTW, I have a real early '05. You will see some info that this upgrade will not work unless you have a later radio, but for me and many other forum members that have the older radios this upgrade has worked just as for the other radios. Dealers won't do the upgrade on the cars with the older radios, but you can DIY.

WARNING: Read and heed the bold-face in post# 152 about putting the ignition in a mode that will keep it on. You don't want the ignition timing out on you and turning off while doing the upgrade - it will turn your radio into a brick. That being said, don't be alarmed about doing it yourself - as long as you do it as explained you'll have no problems.

Disregard my previous post - I thought you were asking about playing MP3 discs.

As far as the Nav Discs, all the data is on the disc. You can put in what ever version Nav Disc you have. The disc must stay in the Nav unit - there is no download of data into the Nav unit.

Until about 1/2 way through the 2006 run, the CD players wouldn't play CD's recorded in the MP3 format, they would only play a normal music CD with 15 or so tracks on it.

With the software upgrade I was talking about in that post above, the CD players will play CD's recorded in the MP3 format - and you can put some 150 songs on a disc.

The radios on the older cars can have their software/firmware upgraded by making some upgrade discs in those links I refer to. Or, you can get your dealer to do it - but they may not do it on some early 2005 cars that have a different radio part#, but you can do it yourself with those upgrade discs.

beezeye, I have a 2006 w/Nav that won't play mp3 disks (although my Bose radio in my office does, and my wife's Ford Explorer will). I've read the post that corrects it in the 2005's, bu t you are the first to mention that nav was the same halfway through 2006. Mine was built 1/06, and has the U3U production code. Naturally, dealer doesn't know anything about it.

Since you seem to know, I have to ask: will I melt the thing if I try to do the upgrade to the firmware?

Uh-oh!!! Don't expect me to know too much about this (or anything else - except maybe tire pressure sensors and TPMS reset tools).

As far as the "that the nav was the same halfway through 2006" - actually, I think the nav radio part# changed halfway through the 2005 model year. I'm not sure, but I think the software/firmware may have still been the same into the start of the 2006 model year.

Take a look this old thread about the software/firmware upgrade. The TSB referenced is dated 9Dec05. It specifically says it is to fix a problem on 2005 cars:
"Poor and/or No Radio Reception, Intermittent Static on FM with Navigational Radio System (Update Radio Software)
2005 Chevrolet Corvette (Domestic and Export) with Navigation Radio"
If you look down in the body of the TSB, it references a radio part#. Early '05 cars had a different part# and the dealers would not do this software/firmware upgrade on the early '05 cars, although owners like me did it on our own and it worked fine and I enjoy MP3's on my '05 Nav radio C6.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1254624

I'm not sure you have that problem, but it may be. I would think you more likely have the problems some posters identified in this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...70&forum_id=74

Take a look at post# 10 (and the couple prior to that, and the many follow ons to them). If you don't burn the discs properly they won't play in the C6 even though they play in other CD players. I think the main problem is trying to put tracks into folders.

Also, it seems to me that when I burned MP3's on discs manufactured by one company they work fine, but discs made by somebody else had problems. The software you use to burn the discs can also create problems. Anyway.....read that thread above - it's very, very long, but has some good info in it about burning MP3 discs for the C6.

Default Question...

I just put a older nav unit in my 08. Everything works BUT the steering wheel controls - will the upgrade help there or am i SOL?

BTW - the radio works w/o any version coding - thought it wasn't supposed to ?

No problem, it has been confirmed by many owners on this forum that the update discs work on all radios in the Corvette. Early on, there was talk that the update onl worked on certain radios and my NAV is one that was NOT suppose to work with the update. The process takes about 10 minutes to complete once you insert the first disc. I did my update myself and it went very smoothly. I've been enjoying MP3 discs for about a year and a half now!

I started aother thread a few days ago about burning MP3 discs and someone asked about the update and I posted the link to the update discs and the process. Click the link below.

Only '06 and '07 get the 2 free upgrades. '05 and '08 have to pay for upgrades.

I "won" a free upgrade from 2005 to 2007 here on the forum a couple months ago. Popped it in the Nav and it booted right up. No problems at all...
