Instrument Cluster Panel Replacement
I am about to swap out the stock instrument cluster panel with a painted one I ordered from WCC, but the instructions are the most vague I have ever seen. Has anyone done this swap out and have any good info on how to do the swap? I tried a search but it did not really bring up any useful information.
The actual dash and console pieces both unsnapped and popped free really easily-the problem is disconnecting the multitude of electrical connections. It seemed like each one was a little different than the one before. A lot of patience is required and I would definately suggest another set of hands to hold the console or cluster while you disconnect all the items. Well worth it in the end though! I don't know who came up with that aweful dull gray color that the factory uses, but I love my faux carbon fiber.
Look at the new cluster to see where the clips are and use as a guide as where to pull on the existing cluster. Start at the bottom and pull just hard enough to release clips. There are wires on the switches on both sides of the guages. Need a short phillips screwdriver to remove the switch clusters. Remove starter switch and temp sensor, pop off the retaining washers for the dust shield and install all on new cluster.
Install the switch pods and snap cluster back on.
Really pretty easy. Console was much harder due to all the electrical connections.
Look in sticky section, there is a link to a good write up.
Here is a post from Fourm Member and Vendor PipeDreams from a different thred about the same issue.
"Here is my twist on the pod removal. I loosen the surround and then instead of monkeying with the connectors, I remove the three screws on each switch pod (use a stubby Philips) and then I remove the trim and it's now simple to unplug the connectors. On the install I screw the switches back on the trim prior to setting in place and then plug the connectors in."
I saved it for when I can do mine. Ed I hope you don't mind me spreading your magic.
