Default Differential flush

hey guys i finally got my c6 from the dealer earlier today but was quickly disappointed again as i started hearing awkward noises coming from the differential once again.

I took it in to the dealer because of the problem with the differential. They ended up just flushing and refilling the diff fluid twice and said it no longer made the noises.

After driving it for about 2 hours i started to hear the same type of noise again coming from the differential.

Im planning on taking it back tomorrow. Kinda pisses me off that a DEALER would do temporary fixes.

btw i still have my factory warranty

Im planning on being really **** about the noise and will try to get them to repair the problem permanetely.

This isnt my first C6 i didnt hear any type of noise such as this in the previous ones.

Was planning on getting an extended warranty but after the way ive observed the way dealers handle certain situations it just seems like a waste of money.

My buddy has an 06 c6 with a bad tranny. dealer refuses to cover under warranty stating he "ABUSED IT" they said they conlcuded that after feeling the clutch pedal . He has now turned it into a legal matter.

who buys a super car not to push it once in a while...

The dealer pretty much did the most appropriate thing for you. In MOST cases with these cars, a flush or two will rid the noise, at least for a good while (several thousand miles+), and is the best "first step".

Sounds like you have an "abnormal" differential noise which will require extra attention. So don't be TOO hard on the dealer here because in my opinion they did the "best" thing for you so far. Unfortunately it looks like they will now need to start taking things apart.

In my car, a mere flush completely stifled my loud differential noise... and that was with non-synthetic GM oil and only 4 ounces of additive. Been quiet now for about 2k miles or so. Seems that "most" other C6s have responded the same way.

Please report back the final outcome of your differential noise fix.

I've heard alot of people with this chronic problem switch to Amsoil in the rear differential and never have the problem again.

That is what I did. No problems. Give it a try.

Don't think we've yet read any "long-term" reports of the results of a flush using 8-ounces of additive (per the latest TSB). It's possible that this trick may yield way more noise-free miles than we've been seeing with mere 4-ounce flushes. Time will tell. I'd be happy getting a good 10k noise-free miles out of a flush... hopefully the 8-ounces of additive will do the trick. A flush every 10k miles is not too much of a pain. An interval less than that starts becoming a bit annoying though IMO.

I recently had mine done - they used 8 oz of add. on mine. No issues. Could part of the problem be not working the lube into the diff right after getting the work done? My mechanic didn't take the car out and do slow figure-8's - he just gave me the car back. I know the TSB says to make several slow runs to work the stuff in. Could that be an issue?

On mine the noise was gone for about 6K milkes...however, now it is back...just not as loud as before, but I expect it to get louder and have to take it back to the dealer. Hope the second fix is the charm.

Just settle yourself with the lack of GM certification issue.

After the flush and fresh fluid, do some figure 8's or as I did, about 10 tight left and right circles in the parking lot.

Had mine done & the noise was gone...except for a very very slight occasional noise still in 1st if I have the clutch halfway engaged going real slow. It is slight enough where I just can't see making an issue out of it at this point. I am always listening though in case it gets worse, and in that case I'll schedule another appointment.

About 6500 miles, rear started making noise. Took it to the dealer and they said no flush but simply added a second bottle of friction modifier. They said give it a couple of weeks and see if it quiets down. I believe it is working. The noise is just slightly noticeable and only when it's cold. I believe the noise will be completely gone in another 200 miles or so.

About 1500 miles on my first flush. Got it done with ~ 37K on the clock.

Beforehand, was clunking horribly when backing up cold, and then ultimately, even when rounding normal corners.

The flush did not ever completely make it silky smooth, so I was worried it would rapidly deteriorate and get back to unbearable. But so far, it has maintained a *very* slight 'hitch' it kept following the flush, but no audible noise, no 'clunk' when backing, and generally, quite livable and not getting detectably worse so far.

Still have fingers crossed, tho'

20,000 miles since the fluid change and additive and still no more noise for me neither.
