Learned it here!
The first was that very annoying static with the FM radio. Some members did the software upgrades themselves, others opted to have it done by their dealer, with or without a charge. Although I'm computer savvy and feel confident working with software updates (I write software myself) I am always hesitant to use files that I didn't actually witness the source, so I chose to have the dealer do it. To my surprise, he waved the fee and did it for free. It fixed the static, enabled MP3 support and the radio actually is louder and cleaner sounding.
The other issue was the OnStar system. Being an '05, the hardware is analog. OnStar has announced that after December 31, 2007 they will no longer support the analog. I learned this from members here, and also found that if your were a current OnStar customer, some dealers did the upgrade to digital free or at low cost. So I called OnStar and signed up for a month-to-month account. Again, the dealer did the upgrade free, charging just an administration charge of $15. I did need to sign-up for a yearly account with OnStar, but I was going to do that anyway.
I wanted OnStar immediately after purchase (I'm second owner) since I live 10 miles from the Mexican border and the GPS tracking features are almost a forth of the cost of Lojack, which doesn't have any of the other services.
These forums are a treasure of information, thanks!
