Default Computer Codes and DIC

I know you can access the codes your car throws via the DIC. I even saw it in a post not too long ago, but darned if I can find out how to check and clear the codes. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

As far as I know, you cannot access the codes like we can on the C-5's. You would need a code reader with the CANI interface.

That's been publicized here for about 3 years now.

As others have indicated, that was on the C5's they disabled the feature on the C6's. You will need to get yourself a CANBUS capable OBDII code reader. Like this one (third one down) as an example:

I have this same code reader and it's a must have tool for every C6 owner.

As I understand it you can only read codes related to emissions, not the codes thrown for system problems like ABS, Active Handling, etc? That's what I ran into because I had to go to the dealership to get that fault code read. I also had one of those code readers but it didn’t do me any good…… Only bring it up so folks know they can’t read all those other codes without a much more expensive piece of equipment.

A standard OBD2 reader will not communicate to the C6?

I can see from a liability stand point GM not wanting folks to try and fix or by-pass any "safety" related codes.

My buddy is fighting a few of these codes (airbag, AH and TC codes). And I just used it to read and clear a P0551 (Power Steering Sensor) code from the wifes PT Cruiser. So far it hasn't come back, so it does read and clear more then just emissions codes.

As I recall, some (not all) will be able to read the codes but will not be able to clear them. The Corvette uses the CAN data bus which came about in 2003 I think (not used on Corvettes until 2005).

As I understand it... OBDII is a standard... there are a standard set of codes that any OBDII-spec reader *must* be able to gather, and then there are a set of GM-specific codes added onto the "standard" set that aftermarket readers can gather *if* they have the additional GM extended codes in their software.

I think the problem comes in for the CAN bus now in use by many of the newer OBDII systems... the standard OBDII codes are unchanged, its just the transport layer that is different.

Yes... makes sense! My fault code was for ABS and it wouldn't read it and obviously not clear it either. It would have been nice to at least see exactly what the problem was. Turned out it was a bad module which the dealer replaced........
