Is it safe to do a burn out with an automatic, and if so what is the best way to do it.
It isn't safe if there are cops around, auto or manual. It isn't safe if a crowd is around either, as shown by the tragedy in Tennessee this week. But if you mean, will I break my car? Then if you use some prudence the answer is no.
The best way to do a burnout in an automatic car is to back it into the water box to get the rear tires wet, pull forward and set the Line Loc, then just stomp the gas and watch the tire smoke swirl around the car. If you don't have a Line Loc, install one. A poor second is to try to hold the brake while giving it the gas. The rear tires will spin, but it is awfully hard on the rear brakes, and the car can easily become unstable and try to get away from you.
