2008 C6 Coupe OR 2007 Z06
Okay, my first post and I need some assistance. The great news is my 2008 Coupe was produced (event code 3800) today. However, I am still debating as to getting the 2007 Z06 instead. The '08 has 430hp and the Z51 pkg. and 6 speed but the more I look at the Z06 w/ all of its lighter weight componets, resale value, bigger brakes and other items I am torn. Please share with me your comments as to what you would do and why! Thanks!

It just comes down to the almighty dollar. If you don't mind the extra dollars that the Z will cost you...then go for it. Just make sure you get a healthy discount on the Z.

I was contemplating the same thing, but decided to get the 08 coupe I ordered, and probably has already been produced. At least I can take off the top, comes with all the goodies, 427 heads, intake, CAI, injectors. Not to mention the new TR6060 trany. All I have to do it add a ProCharger, and I’ll be happy. Plus the 07 Z06 is already one year old.

To me its a no brainer, if you have the cash, a C6 will never be a C6 Z06 plain and simple. even with the bump and horsepower the handling and the power of the Z are incredible and only attainable after spending cash on the Z51 with suspension and performance mods. But it also depends what you are looking for. For me all out performance is key so the Z would be my choice.

I'm very happy with my 07 z51 m6 coupe.. however, if i would've had the extra 30K it was going to take to step up I would have bought the Z06... now, in hindsight I can put out 10k and do rear widebody and engine mods and have the best of both worlds.. the power, looks and ability to go topless.. and do it all on a schedule that doesn't break my bank account..

If I had the extra cash I'd get the 2007 Z06. Only downside is it want have the new tranny or upgraded console. To me though 20K extra is a lot for 70 more Hp and 40 more lbs torque in a slightly lighter frame.
I'm happy with my 2008 C6 Mn6 Z51 coupe I ordered.
Unless you track the Z06 you want notice much of a difference on the street. full open throttle runs on the street in a Z06 can get u into deep trouble.

Topless, only woman are generally topless in the Vette
I have taken my top off once.
Z06 is still going to outperform the 08's by miles even if the 08's have more HP.
It is a different car.
C6 is a sports car.
Z06 is a race car. (hense no removable top)
If you can do the Z, which it sounds like you can do, then it comes down to what you want.
Looks (some don't like the Z looks), Performance (Z is better), removable top.
All comes down to what is going to make you happy.
Either way you go, I am willing to bet my Vette, that you will be happy.
You are going to be the guy at work with ear to ear grins forever, in either car.

An '08 Z51 C6 is just another Z51 C6, in a previous long line of Z51 C6s despite the hype and fanboyism here.
A C6 Z06, be it '06 or '07, is indeed something quite special. To wit, my '05 Z51 makes at least as much power and probably handles as well as as an '08 Z51 and it can't hold a candle to a Z06.
Having driven one, I can say without doubt that my next C6 will be a Z06.

If I were ten years younger, there would be a Z06 in my garage right now. But I share my hobby with two other motorcycles, and retirement is 10 years away for me. You'd be amazed at how concious you become at my age of how much money you need in your 401K, and what it takes to get there.
I just can't justify the extra money for the Z. And with 436 hp, the car I have on order is a hell of a deal. I'm fortunate that I am buying a fairly loaded Z51, Nav, 3LT coupe at GMS for under 48K. The best deal I would likely get on a comparable Z would be somewhere around 75K.

Short answer:
Get the Z.
Longer answer:
I drove an 07' rather than an 08' C6.. For me, it wasn't enough to get me to jump from my 02' C5. Yes, more modern and more refined, but something (for me) was missing.
I took a ride in a C6Z and ordered one
It really is an amazing car.. I'm sure one that I'll never have the talent to fully explore.
That said, it is +/- $25K over the price of an 08' C6Z51.
If you don't care about the cosmetic aspect of the Z - widebody, bigger wheels, etc. and/or you relish taking the top off/down, then I don't think anyone on this Forum would argue that the 08' C6 is (still) one he!! of a car.
If you're going to race it, want the look but not the hassle of doing a widebody kit, have the extra $$ (not otherwise earmarked), or just want the biggest stick on the block, then I say go for the Z. Trust me, the first time you shift at 7000 rpms with the pipes singing, you won't be worrying about the $
Life is short - for all of us. Live it up.
My $0.02
