Default warranty question

I am planning to buy an 06 vert a6 very soon and I was wondering about the remaining warranty on the car. How do you deal with the remaining warranty when you buy the vehicle? Do you have to transfer the owner's name or is it tied to the VIN number or what? The vehicle has probably 2 more years left on the warranty. Thanks in advance

If it is the original factory warranty and not a GMPP extended warranty it is tied in to the VIN of the vehicle and you don't need to do anything. It has an "inservice date" in the GM VIS and this will come up at any servicing dealership. If you are buying this car as a GM Certified used vehicle it will also adopt the GM 5/100 powertrain warranty as well. It must be documented as a Certified Used Vehicle at the time of purchase by the dealership to qualify. Otherwise the 3/36 warranty will be in effect with what ever time is left.

GM warranties go with the cars. Extended warranties normally are transferred from owner to owner. I have a GMPP ext warranty which went into effect after my orginal one expired

You don't need to do anything to keep the warranty in effect. When you have a problem take it to the dealer and they will take care of you.
