I set my passive locking on (to horn) and found that if I don't leave the car area in a timely manner, the horn does not ring and I assume does not lock. If I simply walk away, the horn sounds. Also upon retuning immediately to the car after the horn sounds, I saw that the warning light (orange security light that shows a lock and a car) was on for about a second then went out. Any comments. Thanks.
Don't really know what your exact question is, unless you're asking if it is working/locking properly.
I have my passive locking set to horn as well. After turning off the engine, leaving the cockpit and closing the door, the horn does sound while I'm still close to the car unloading groceries from the trunk (got a '05 vert.)
I also am uneasy whether the car is in fact locked since I then close the trunk and no further horn is heard, so much of the time I press the lock feature on the FOB to hear the horn again... but that's just be my OCD .
Passive locking with horn set should sound the horn and lock the doors 8 seconds after you close the doors and remove the fob from the car. It doesn't matter if you stay by the car or walk away.
The theft-deterrent light stays on for 30 seconds after the system is armed, i.e. car locked, and then goes off.

The car doesn't look for a fob actively. It will only interrogate the fob if an attempt is made to open the door or start the car. If you want to test if your car has locked under the above circumstances you will need to leave the fob somewhere out of range and then attempt to open the door.

They system works this way by design, in order to give you time to get things from the trunk. Opening the trunk doesn't disable the alarm, opening the passenger door does!
