Default Secret visor LED??

Ok. Maybe I am stupid and everyone else knows about this, but I just noticed the strangest thing on my C6 last night!

As I was driving last night, I noticed a faint orange glow on my dog's head, and I could not for the life of me figure out where it was coming from. Well, when I finally got home and took a closer look, I noticed that there is a very faint orange LED built into the sun visor retaining clip. This LED is only on the passenger side, and does not emit near enough light to illuminate anything further that a foot away.

Does anyone know what the heck the purpose of this LED is????

It is to light up the shifter area at night. Some of is have changed the color to blue.

Mystery solved. Thanks!
I like the blue LED idea. It fits better with the bluish-white theme that the rest of the interior lighting has.

Just an ambient light to keep the cabin illumination up. You can find this reference in the manual under the reading lamps section.

An ambient light is located in the passenger sun
visor clip. This light stays on while driving to
keep the cabin from being too dark.

I recently posted on another thread that I completed a 3K mile trip recently. A couple of times during that trip, I finally appreciated having that little light to gently illuminate the shifter/console region. Prior to that I did not think it was much use, but in order to find things in cockpit, in the still of the night out on the road, it is nice to have, without having to turn on a map light.

2007 owner's manual, page 171.

An ambient light is located in the passenger sun
visor clip. This light stays on while driving to
keep the cabin from being too dark.
