I had '00 Boxster, '01 S2000, and now '07 C6 coupe. I liked them all. Boxster was a great looking fun car with plenty of elbow room for me. It had two large trucks in the front and the rear so storage space was never a problem. Handling was great since it's a mid-engine car but it was slow. But for simple cruising with the top down and road trips, it was a blast to drive. But it had the worst interior and stereo/speaker sound system of the three.
S2000 was a fun go cart as well with beautiful lines but rawer than the Boxster. I thought it handled little better and was faster once you hit the VTEC but the ride quality was harsher. It was also tiny interior wise with small elbow room and virtually no truck space to speak of. Definitely not a simple cruising and road trip car. It had the best interior but terrible stereo sound system.
C6 coupe is the biggest of the three and has insane power/torque. It's not even close. It handles great as well but you have to get used to its larger size and somewhat Caddy like steering and cushy ride. It has the biggest interior and the most comfortable ride out of the three. Ride quality almost borders on luxurious. Interior is decent and better than the Boxster but not good as the S2000. Stock stereo is the best of the three by a mile. It has plenty of storage space in the trunk, but I think the Boxster might have little more due to its deep front trunk. Taking the top off on the coupe does give it convertible type feeling but it's not the same. But it's pretty close, and it's good enough for me.
Out of the three, I would take the C6 no question. It has the total package. Power/handling, looks, and the price. Best bang for buck sports car today.

Small but with (2) trunks so the loading capacity oughta at least equal a Vette coupe. They are 2 very different cars though. I just sold a Boxster to get a Vette (not here yet). I'd drive them both. As a Touring car, I think the Vette will excell. If you're a corner carver, then the boxster. Both will feel more substantial than your S2000
I agree the Boxster has good storage, but try to put a set of golf clubs in a Boxster. You can if you are alone. My C-6 holds two.
My wife's Boxster was a fun car, but I was too tall to comfortably drive it.
We had the dreaded rear main seal leak. Other than the seal, it was never in the shop in the four years we owned it.
Thank you for all the excellent observations. For me it comes down to image, comfort and power for an occassional squeal. I think I have made up my mind-off to the Chevy dealer to negotiate!
One thing i noticed someone said on page 2 is that the c6 gets better gas mileage then an s2000 , i find that very hard to believe. Anywayz good luck on your purchase with whatever car you decide to choose. I miss my s2000 but cant wait to get my c6.
It's true about the vette and gas mileage. I had a 06 vette purchased new and had to sell it because my son decided to change universities and had to shell out 40K cash, that's when I bought the Honda S.
I got 23-29 mpg in the "vette" and the best I have ever done in the S is 21 mpg
I'm not too familiar with the Porsche, but I can tell you this.... Parts and service cost a fortune for all German cars, especially Mercedes and Porsche. Also the Corvette will walk all over that Porsche. The Vettes Insurance is cheaper and the gas mileage is probably a little bit better.
The insurance I have on my C6 is the least expensive I've ever had on any car I've owned and It gets the best gas mileage of any car I've ever owned. Go figure
Vette, no question.
Be ye VERY careful with the Boxsters made between 1997-2002 or so. They have SEVERE engine problems, bad design causes some intermediate shaft in the engine to crack the crank case.
Porsche customer service makes Chevy's look like .....BMW's; it's bad, really bad. Do a google search on Boxster engine problems and govern yourself accordingly.
Now for the obviously biased portion of my rant:
So far as a car to car comparison goes, the Vette looks MUCH better ( not a chick car, IMHO), is bigger, faster, and an icon to boot. Gas mileage is about the same, from what I've seen.
You may wanna also check out the BMW Z4 series........
Enjoy your purchase, whatever the final decision.
He is right on this one!!! On our way up to LACR (Pomdale Dragstrip) We were all driving our respective cars and this boxter zips by us with some cocky lookin fella in it, and about a couple miles we saw a huge smoke cloud and it was the Boxter on the side of the freeway smoking up a storm. Well a couple of us thought his car was on fire and we had extinguishers so we pulled over behind him and when we got about 50 or so yards from hime we saw the tell tale sign ENGINE BLOOD!! So we just took off and went drag racing!!
I had a Boxster (99), now have a C6. Most of the observations above are correct, but that a C6 outhandles a Boxster ???????/ Maybe the Z06, but my Boxster was nimble, steered much better, and was quick threw turns compared to the Vette. The Vette is not bad, but if a Boxster does one thing well it is handling.
As for power, the Boxster is slow. Looks, everyone has an opinion but both the C6 and Boxster have GREAT lines. Quality, my 99 scared me as the warranty ran out and I saw the cost of parts,
Value, the Vette is one of the best on the market. I am happy with the C6, but did like the Boxster as well.
As far as fast on course, as long as you have some straights the Boxster will get blown away. Throw in all turns and brakes and a different story
I like fast cars esp. sports cars so go with the boxster
If you have to ask than a vette probably is just another
car to you that you will be tradeing soon-if vettes are
in your blood there really isn't a bad vette It started in
1955 for me and I still have the fever
RP
I currently have both 2007 Corvette CPE and 2006 Boxster S
Vette: 10th Vette and the c6 is the best yet, Great acceleration, plenty of room , great on long trips or daily comutes. Downside chevy service. I have had more problems with my Vette's then my wifes 4 boxsters and I put 15k miles per year on each.
Boxster: Great handling, decent acceleration for its class, plenty of room thanks to the 2 trunks, also great on long trips and daily comutes. Porsche at least gives me a Porsche as a loan car when I take it in for warranty service or even an oil change.
Bottom line is you can't go wrong either way. It comes down to which one you prefer. I would drive both then make up your mind.
Okay I know this question has probably been hased over dozens of times but since I am new to the forum could I get some observations:
I have a 07 Honda S2000 and it's fun to drive but a bit small for long trips>
I am looking at a "vette" or boxster: what are the pros and cons of each? Since this is a "vette" forum I assume everone on here would reccomend the "vette" but I would like some practical observations from experienced "vette" owners>
I am looking mainly for a little fun, looks, reliability and comfort: I am not a hot rodder just a crusier who likes to punch it every once in a while.
oh man, I've asked these same types of questions, but a Boxster??? Damn, its not even a real porsche, its some concocted piece of junk so porsche could sell some cars. It has no power, IMHO, its ugly, etc. If you want to say 911, then I can understand. Cars aren't in the same league. And the only people I ever see driving boxters are women or girly men.

I went from the S2000 to a bmw 745 and it feels like i am driving a boat , literally , its bad . Hey have you ever found the secret compartment in the s2000 yet . its in the center compartment theres a hidden button and then the whole thing opens, you can fit about 3 cans of soda in it.
I had a 2002 S2000 for 3 years. The secret compartment is only a secret to those who never read the owners manual. I read it front to back the day I bought the car in 2002 and started using the compartment right away.
