it appears to be an '05 z51 (notice the steering wheel and the rotors).
hah, the jab about leaf springs, i wonder if he even stuck his head under the car. i wonder if he knows about transverse leaf springs.
the part about the flimsy rear panel is true.
even though the kid panned it, initially, he seems to have changed his tune a bit in the end.

Corvette rules, and the Z06 kills.

Performance is what counts and the car delivered. A Z06 would have toasted their crumpets.
Not all their comments were off base either. The plastic interior is not something to rave about. It's adequate and keeps the price low. The clutch? Well, GM put a new transmission in the car after all for 08 and man oh man all the posts about clutch pedal feel and sticking to the floor etc.
Who wants to stand up and say the C6 clutch is well engineered ?
But no car is perfect. For the money the C6 delivers better performance than any of these effeminate so called competitors.
And what the heck was that so called British car? How many of those did they produce? Six or was it eight? And what does it cost?
All these people , if they existed at all, would be speaking German if my father and hundreds of thousands of other young men had not sacrificed for their country. Sometimes the brits tick me off with their attitude but they are us and we are them in many ways. We owe em for so much positive in our culture and language.
IMO
Top Gear is a great show and a lot of fun, they have a blast wringing the c..p out of the cars, with tongue firmly planted in cheek! I think that perhaps some of you are a bit thin-skinned and were completely oblivious to the fact that they were putting it on? Also, did you not catch the beginning where he set the context of the piece? He said that Chevrolet is trying to sell left hand drive Vettes in the UK for 40000 pounds (non Z06)! That's $810000 US plus taxes kids! How many Americans would buy a base Vette if it cost $81K and you had to sit on the wrong side? Have you ever driven British secondary roads in even a small car? I couldn't imagine in something as wide as a Vette, never mind from the wrong side!
As for the rest of the comments, the Z51 does ride extremely hard on anything but glass smooth roads, the plastic interior has always looked to me like it came from a mid nineties Pontiac Grand Prix, and they don't shift like a S2000!
As for the leaf spring, do you think Chevy went that way because it represents the pinnacle in IRS technology? Can you say reduced manufacturing costs?
Am I going to buy one anyway? Damn right!
Same reason I bought my '05 Mustang GT, dirty big fun for the price. At $40K, I'll live with the interior, and other deficiencies, but please don't ask me to pay $81K and tell the world that it's perfect.
