I ordered a 1LT vette which most of you know does not come with Bose, superior or mo better sound, if you get my drift. I have the regular or whatever speaker and sound system comes with the LT1. Can anyone tell me how it sounds. I'm not a big speaker freak, I like listening to the motor and the road, but I don't like crap either. Is the sound system in the 08 LT1 at least middle of the road decent.
How it sounds to other folks really isn't the point, it's how it sound to YOU that matters. Sound quality is EXTREMELY subjective. As you can see, some guys think it's just fine as-is. Others are nuts like me and your car ends up looking like this for a bit.
You won't know if you like it or not until you hear it for yourself. If you decide it ain't good.. well stop into the Audio/Electronics section for a peek at the insanity.
After hearing all the reports on the forum about the inadiquite sound systems, I was ready for real crap. I was pleasently suprized how good the base system sounds when using cd's. I had every intention of ripping the stock stereo out upon delivery for a 7" touch screen dvd/cd amps speakers etc.(about $2500.00) I've decided that I can wait till next summer to do the surgery, although I do miss having xm. Xm aint the greatest thing ever, but regular fm is unbearable. In short, if you just listen to cd's, the base system really isn't that bad. All of my other cars run alpine decks, jl/jbl amps and seperates w/subs.(for comparison)

At least the base system is stereo, the Bose isn't really. The speakers are cheap, but no worse than the ones that come with the Bose system. Speakers are easy to replace. Boston Acoustics, JL, or Eclipse, will make it sound even better, and won't cost an arm and a leg.
I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality of my 2007 1lt system. It sounds better than the bose in my E55 and the LX470 stereo systems. If I didnt know I would swear it was a high end system. Once i'm able to connect my IPOD I will be set.
Wow, hey thanks for the info, I was really worried about the sound. Like I said I don't listen to radio much, I like Cd's and I think I can hook up my Ipod to it. Knowing that the sound is at least adequate makes me feel better. My older son was giving me crap about not getting a bose system. Now I can sleep better.

do you have to get an amp with these better speakers?

shopdog - are any of these direct replacements, that will work with connector swapouts (as opposed to cutting and splicing wires?)
In other words, would any of these allow you to return your system to stock configuration if you chose to do so later?

Most aftermarket speakers even if they didn't have direct connectors into the factory harness they make adapters to connect into the factory wiring without cutting or splicing.
Many high-end audio shops will either carry them or can get them. Metra makes a lot of wiring adapters.
When I went to high school there were the performance guys and the sound system guys, I was definitely not in the latter group. That said, even I think the speakers are bad. I listen to mostly rock and classical. The rock music sounds like has too much base and treble (that may not make much sense). I can never get it tuned well. Listening to classical music on the base system is like trying to drive with someone else's eyeglasses. You are going to miss all the details.
I have been looking into replacing the speakers with Infinite kappas. From what I have heard it will dramatically improve the sound without needing to put in an amp. Just my 2 cents.
Well great, half the replies say the base stereo is better or as good as the Bose system, and the other half of you say it sucks. Lot of help guys. I guess it doesn't matter much, I already have it ordered. I guess there is always after market if I don't like it. Does everyone ever agree on anything in the corvette forum???? Other than vettes are HOT!!!!!

You can buy adapter plugs that let you keep the stock harness intact. I wouldn't bother, you won't ever want to go back to the cheap Mexican speakers that come in the car.
