From my 2006 owners manual:

ACTIVE HANDLING CALIBRATING: This message will
display and the active handling system light on the
instrument panel cluster will be on while the system is
calibrating after exceeding 19 mph (30 km/h) for
10 seconds. See Active Handling System Light on
page 3-40. The Active Handling System is not functional
yet. The Active Handling System performance is affected
until the next message ACTIVE HANDLING READY is
displayed. The Active Handling System is off until the
ACTIVE HANDLING READY message is displayed.
See Active Handling System on page 4-10 for
more information.
The ACTIVE HANDLING CALIBRATING message may
be displayed in the DIC and the instrument panel
cluster light will be on after exceeding 18 mph (30 km/h)
for 10 seconds. The Active Handling System is off
until the ACTIVE HANDLING READY message
is displayed. This could take up to 15 minutes.

Perfectly normal after some spirited driving. Without having all the technical aspects of the system, you went in to competitive mode and I suspect the rain caused a little loss of traction a time or two. As a result it was just getting "reset" so to speak. Shopdog may be able to lend some more detail.

The AH system performs "sanity checks" continuously while you are driving. If it notices any parameters that appear to be "unreasonable", it will perform a calibration routine. During this time, AH is not active. If calibration returns the readings to sane values, you're good to go. If not, AH will set a code and display a message telling you to service active handling.

This message is most often seen shortly after starting and driving off in the car, especially if going over rough pavement or making sharp maneuvers. It can also happen at other times when sensors report things the AH system doesn't consider reasonable for the way you're driving.

This should be considered normal unless it happens frequently. Then you should have the car checked to make sure none of the sensors are intermittently malfunctioning.

I used to see the message often, but since the steering position sensor was replaced, I have not received the "Active Handling Calibrating" or "Service Active Handling" messages.
