Anyone sign up for the program combining On star with verizon wireless. Apparently this combines your verizon wireless with on star such that you receive one bill from Verizon for both vehicle minutes ( on star ) and your normal verizon minutes outside the vehicle. This could be an alternative to blue tooth. Not certain how this works phone nos. etc.
I have done it and it works out pretty good for me. When you combine the two accounts you no longer have to buy minutes from onstar. You get a second line on your cell phone and you share minutes. Basically it is a family share plan. If you use the "car phone" often it works out better than buying minutes from onstar. If you rarely use it then it would be better to just buy a bunch of mintes and they will last a year until they expire. It also allows you to call everyone with verizon for free as well as free nights and weekends. This is my two cents and not a expert opinion.
Works well EXCEPT... for some reason, the 2007 cars do not show the caller information (phone numbers) in the DIC like the 2006 cars did. Not sure if it is a safety thing or what????
My 2006 showed the number that was calling the car, and the number I was calling in the DIC. It was very handy.
I suppose you have an onstar no. ( which is not your verizon No. ) and you set your verizon phone to call forwarding to the onstar No. when you are in the vehicle and change the setttings to cancel call forwarding when you leave the vehicle. Is that how it works ?
I have my Vette on the Verizon family share plan as well as my Hummer. Each vehicle cost $10 bucks per month and the minutes count on your cell minutes. BUT THERE IS A BONUS. You can talk between these phones anytiime with FREE minutes. PLUS any verizon phone that calls you is FREE too!! The caller pays minutes but you do not.
I drive my Hummer and the wifey drives the Vette. We talk to eachother 30 - 60 minutes a day and it's free (except the $10/month and the cell plan) which you pay for even if you don't use the cell minutes.
Basicly - my cell has three numbers, the cell itself the Vette and the Hummer. I have the 500 minutes per month plan on the cell and the two vehicles "attatch" to that for $10 each. Whenever a call is made from any of the three the minutes count towards the cell plan. If I call between the numbers the call is minute free or if another verizon calls me that is minute free too.
I use the phones a lot and they barely show on my bill. It's a real good deal.
The only down side is with the Vette's equipment. The microphone in the Vette is mounted on the inside of the driver A pillar and is not really "facing" your voice so the person listening to you hears a slight "clip" of the first sylable when you speak and they will ask you to repeat a lot. The Hummer phone is perfect as the mike is right above your mouth on the roof. You hear the other person thru the audio speakers and that sounds perfect.
I find the Verizon family plan thing to be a bargain in this situation and highly recommend doing it for your Vette.
BTW - my 06 Hummer does display phone numbers in the DIC and the 07 Vette does not as stated above. Both are voice dialed and that works very well - never misses.

No not unless you wanted to forward the calls. Your Vette or any other GM onstar equipped vehicle has it's own number so you can make and recieve phonecalls independently of your cell phone.
There is another issue with using Verizon and the Vette phone - they cannot link them in many areas. I live about an hour south of Minneapolis, and Verizon has told me that they cannot add my Vette to my Verizon plan. I don't see why not, but that's what they told me. Are they wrong?
I believe the paper work did say "not available in all areas".
I'm in Las Vegas and have traveled to AZ and SoCal many times in the Hummer and had full coverage in those areas and in-between. I'm taking the Vette to Northern CA tomorrow so I guess I'll figure that out then.
I've found that if a Verizon phone works there my car phones will too. In fact, my Hummer has better coverage in the fringe signal areas than my cell phone does. I think the Hummer has a better antenna.
As far as call forwarding - if your cell has this option then you can forward calls received on your cell to your Vette. I do not think it works the other way though (vehicle forwards to cell).

The local "Verizon" stor cannot. Press the OnStar button and ask to be connected to the Verizon Department - they will set you up via phone in the vette.
