Just curious; I have an '07 w/Z51, my brother has an '05 base. He can break traction from a roll with the clutch already engaged in 1st. In other words just punching it from a roll. Mine won't and I'm assuming it's because of the Supercar tires??? Yes, the traction control was off and both are manual.
Older tires spin pretty easy. Probably has a lot less tread depth, older harder rubber. After a couple years the cars to slide around a bit easier. I had an 04 Z that when brand new, stuck pretty good. After that first year and knocking a lot of the new off the tires it was pretty easy to spin them at will.
My 05 M6 Z51 will break loose at any speed in 1st gear. I still have the original super tires at 18K miles.... And yes, they still have about 50% tred life left.
Surprisingly, to me at least, my '06 A6 has broken loose at highway speed when I have gotten on it! This was in D trans. position with ah/tc both ON. It has done it a couple times and brought a nice smile to my face. Definitely can feel the power!
I have a 05 MN6 and if I would punch it at almost any speed in 1st I would loose traction. That was one of my reasons for doing the rear wide body conversion. I get better launches on the big rubber in back now. Thanks CFL.
My 06 MN6 will also break loose easily, with TC & AH on from a 5 mph roll. The tires are good with only 1600 miles on the car. As soon as I shift into second, if I punch it again they will also break loose.
Cool vs hot temps, and type of road has a lot to do with it. But I'll share another secret. Many times, they will not break loose nailing it at 5mph, but it will at 20 mph (assuming both times in first gear). It depends on where you are on the power band. And if you nail it way below the power band, and it does not break lose, many times it will maintain traction even as you accelerate into the power band.
I know many people will agrue that their car will break them loose at 5mph, and I'm not saying your car in good weather and the right road surface won't. But go out on a hot day and cement (vs asphalt) and try it. If you have good tires, and stock power you might find what I'm saying to be true.

DEAD ON !! I have a procharged car putting more than 500 to the wheels , and on cement on a hot day there are times when my car will barley spin - In fact its the only time I can get a good launch !!
I don't think I own the same car as you guys. I hope the altitude here in SLC has something to do with it, but my A6 IMHO is a complete dog. Its all I can do to lay a little rubber.

It's not a dog. I've driven three A6's in Houston on cement in 90 deg weather with 100% humidity, fully heat soaked, and none of them will break loose much, if any. All had brand new tires(mine still only has 5k on it). When I first got mine after about 1000 miles in 50 deg weather, on cement it would spin completely through first gear and hit the rev limiter. Temp, humidity, altitude, surface, tires age, all play a big part.
I thought the point of having TC (and possibly AH) was that the car would not let the wheels break loose and run away. Wouldn't it be better to turn those options off first?

Here in Florida even with temps over 93 my 06 a6 will break em loose.
