How to Increase HP on a Z51?
If one were planning a series of mod's... and you wanted an initial boost of power at the lowest cost, what would you do? Cold air alone? Cold air with catback? What would be your list of mod objectives in the order you'd do them?

Biggest boost of power at lowest cost? Well I dont know how involved you want to get with your mods. I'd think the biggest power "boost" at the lowest cost would have to be some 4.10 gears for the rear diff. Cold air intake is good, and only a few hundred dollars. Catback is worthless for power in my opinion, more for your own listening pleasure. There's just so much you can do to these cars, the options are pretty much endless.

The MODS I have completed: (in order to get as much air thru the motor as possible)
1. headers/cats
2. CAI & 160 Stat (1 & 2 came with a tune as well)
3. Catback
4. Cam (coming soon)
5. 4.10's (if the rest isn't enough)
I'm happy with headers/cats, cai, 160 stat and Stingers, it all has it's entertainment value in addition to the 45 horses i get out of it.. Nitrous of course is the best BANG for you buck.. but I wouldn't IMO..

My first performance mod was a tune - worth 10 RWHP and better driveability. That was followed immediately by a beefed up 4.10 rear from DTE complete with all the goodies and the brace.

Changing gears doesnt give you any more horsepower. It just allows you to use what you have more effectivly. A good comparison, is a ten seped bike. Put it in 5th gear and try to take off, its very hard to get going, now put it in first, and using the same amount of energy that you used trying to take off in fifth, take off, and the bike will get up and go much much quicker. The gears you have in your car now, make it liek trying to take off in 5th gear on the ten speed. Get 4.10's and its like taking off in first with the ten speed.

Just curious as a point of clarification if the engine in the Z51 optioned C6 is different than the engine in the non Z51 optioned C6? Last time I checked they were identical. As in exactly the same.
btw....just curious....do you personally feel that you drive a Corvette C6 or some other kind of sports car made by GM called a Z51?
And, would you recommend if I buy an 08 with special exhaust that I refer to it as "My NPP"?

Interesting way to put it. I like it! I don't see why it would do anything to the warranty... If you are worried have the dealer do it. Might cost you more but then it is covered by them. I had my dealer intall my 3.73 (98 C5) and it was covered by them just like anything else.

Personnally I think you are being ridiculous. I am sure he and everyone else knows that it is the same engine. Did you ever think he is just proud of owning a Z51 and wanted to stat that. Why do you think people put Z51 badges on there car. Why do you think Z owners call them Z's and not corvette's. It is still a corvette. They are just proud of what they got like "he is" a Z51 owner.

Pay no attention to the sad little man from Oregon....
back on topic...I think 4.10 gears would give you a great boost and wouldnt affect your engine warranty. I think most places have that at $1200-$1500 installed.

Gears would be a good bang for the buck, dont even know if you can do 4:10's on a A6? I would think 4:10's would be toooo steep for a A6,i'm sure they would work fine for the MN6.

Also remember, that changing the gears is going to affect your top speed, by how much I don tknow. But it will. Just use the ten speed analogy again. you can take off quick in first gear, but you cant get up to the same speed as you can when the bike is in 5th gear.

Back on topic, 410 gears are a fantastic mod, it will make your Z51 vette feel like its got a huge extra kick in power. I wish I had done the gears prior to my other bolt ons because it is a big improvement over the stock gearing. After gears, headers, and a tune at the same time along with CAI. Good luck with your car.
