Default mn6 question

According to the owner's manual, I believe we should shift from 1st gear to second gear around 30-35mph. I was wondering if we can shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear when it reach the 6000rpm? I believe if we do so, the speedometer should be over 45mph on first gear, is it bad for the car? or is it possible to do so? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Buzzing the engine up to unnecessarily high RPMs in the lower gears will increase fuel consumption, increase ring and bore wear because of higher piston speed, increase valve spring fatigue, and increase inertia stress on the crank and rods (inertia loads go up with the square of RPM). In other words, if you need the extra power, then do it, but be aware that has a cost in terms of economy and engine longevity.

After driving my MN6 shifting to keep a minimum of 1,500 on the tach for a year out of old habbit, I was reminded recently here that the LS2 can pull the car as low as 900 rpm. I started adjusted my shifting to try and keep the tach down to near 1,000 rpm after getting up to speed, and I've noticed that I'm using about 2-3 fewer gallons a week. Dropped from just over a half tank a week to 2 notches below a half tank.
