As novass66 sez, it's the model of the car, or the body style.
These GM body style numbers go all the way back to the days of Fisher Body. The 07 in the left hand corner says you have a hatch back coupe. In the sixties and seventies, the VIN of every Corvette began with 19437 or 19467; 37 was the predecessor number for a coupe without the hatch back.
Corvette convertibles have 67 in that block; Z06s have still another number that escapes me...I believe it's 01.

In the context of the OP question, the 1YY portion is superfluous and confusing, since those characters are not shown in the upper left corner box of the build sheet...but, yes, 87 is the correct body number for the Z06.
So thats what the 1yy07 in the VIN means!!Thanks for the info!!!
Now I'm confused.
How did the VIN get in this conversation? I don't think you have a VIN with 1YY07 in it. At any rate, the car model no. does NOT appear in the VIN, AFAIK. A single character appears in the 6th position to indicate the body style ("1" = FRC, "2" = Coupe, "3" = Convertible), but that's all. The model year is in the 10th character position, with a 5 for an 05.
Not to hijack the OP question, but where can the build sheet be found?
The original build is attached to the car as it moves down the assembly line. Once the car is completed, I believe the build sheet is removed; thus most owners never see theirs. You can buy a copy of the build sheet through the National Corvette Museum; I bought one for my 2005 and it's actually kind of cool.
The build sheet is normally not delivered to the owner. If you get the NCM delivery it is given to you, or you can order a reprint from the NCM.
