i'm sure all of you remember my fight with a concrete pole over a month ago. the car is still sitting at the shop waiting on the front rails. from what i am told...chevrolet "may" recieve some by the end of the month and ship them out. the shop tells me that no one in the united states has the 2 rails. i find it hard to believe that chevrolet has none of these parts in stock. so now 1 month and 8 days and counting my car sits at the body shop...more days than i had the car...so i come to you guys for help. does anybody know what's going on with parts #'s 19120979 and 89023323. Here's a pic just in case you guys don't remember the car.
Thanks in Advance!
I just did a national dealer parts search and didn't have any hits on those two numbers.
Even if you are not using your insurance, you can still call them and ask to speak with one of their auto appraiser/techs, and ask if they have any sources that you can contact for the parts too. Many of those folks are car nuts too and will lead you in the right direction.
I called up a friend in the business to see about rails for a new Corvette to see if I could help you.
Thought his info was interesting:
"On this style Corvette , the rails on each side run from front to back. No part costs even listed for these items as they are pulled from the production line upon ordering . No parts in stock in the USA per the search I just performed .
Went to training class on this . To replace one of these rails , the entire vehicle must be gutted because the rail is what's called hydro formed ( made with water pressure ) and must be installed as 1 piece .
I do not even know of a certified shop that can perform this replacement."
So I couldn't help, but thought I would share the comments.

Having seen those rails at the factory, I think I'd be talking to the insurance company about totaling it. I can't imagine replacing the entire rail which goes from front to back. I have to assume your shop is thinking they can just cut the end off and re-weld the front. It will never be as strong as the original 1 piece rail.

There are so many factors that an insurance company uses in the formula to total an auto. Time to repair, rental car cost, structural integrity, on and on. I'd sure push them to total it. It doesn't look like the parts are even close to being available.

i think thats what they are planning on doing. i saw another corvette in their shop that they had done that to and it made me pretty nervous. i gotta fight this thing!
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!! that car is totaled i dunno why you are trying to get it fixed. sorry but i would never want it after that kinda damage, looks like the engine was hit too...
1. You don't want this car back; I know it hurts but move on to car with its structural limts not limited; 2. If your insurance co. gives you a hard time about totaling it, hire a chevy dealer service manager and have him render his report that the car should be declared a total loss; if your carrier is not responsive hire a pit bull lawyer and let him/her do his thing on a contingency basis with you paying the expenses (court costs) up front. I wish you the best of luck.

Unfortunately you'll take a hit but just imagine trying to sell it after it's been repaired with that kind of damage! You're better off biting the bullet now, take the hit and get a new car........
