I don't know what all the ooh ahh hooplah whoopdee freakin doo hype about oil filters is these days but the owners manual for my 07 calls for an AC PF48 oil filter so that's what I stick with. There's my $.02 for the day.

Come on!!! do you really believe there is a difference that matters? considering the miles most of us drive whether we use Mobil 1 or Amsoil, AC or SuperTech, it likely doesn't matter as long as we change oil & filter once a year in the spring.

Perhaps twice, for those with extra time and money and don't know what to do with it.

I've had my oil changed twice now per the DIC and my car is only 8 months old.

If I have extra time and money laying around I'd sure like to find it.

Years ago, a friend had a Fram filter on his Harley that must have had a defective bypass and didn't flow anything. He didn't have an oil pressure guage or light and his motor siezed.

Makes me wonder just how much I can trust the accuracy of this thing.

Thanks for setting me straight.

In this case, yes. They're all made on the same assembly line, just private brand marked and boxed differently at the end of the line. Super Tech is a fine filter. No need to pay extra for a different label.

I was looking for a post just like this because I just got back from Wal-Mart and picked up one of these Super Tech oil filters and was wondering if I've made a grave mistake.

I do not think GM will take care of you if your aftermarket filter lets you down.

I don't think GM will take care of you unless they change your oil.

The AC UPF44 filters I have appear to be made by Champion Labs. They are a step up in quality from the basic AC filter.

As mentioned, Mobil 1 and SuperTech oil filters are both made by Champion Labs. SuperTech is a good filter but it has been changed recently - (i) some parts that were metal are now plastic or fiber and (ii) the filter material is no longer synthetic.

According to Champion Labs: "The Mobil 1 oil filter is manufactured using higher quality materials and specifications and it is in a class by itself".

EDIT: Called Champion Labs and this info came directly from them.

I know Fram filters get bashed a lot - but I see them on the shelves in every store I go in.
Now, if they were so bad, and engines were blowing up coast to coast, how long would Fram be in business?

That said, I use AC Delco in my GM vehicles because $2.50 more for a filter on a $50k car isn't worth arguing about.

Good logic.....

Oil filters are much like engine oil. ALL are good and do the job. SOME just do it BETTER. Determining if YOU need better and how much better, is the KEY.

Also most owners on here must be paying/observing an aweful high price for OEM Delco. I buy mine at the dealer for $4.83 plus tax. At that rate, hardly worth considering an aftermarket.
