Default Nav System

My car is an 07 1LT and I am purchasing the factory nav system for my car, my question is will it work? I was told that I could have bought the bose 6cd changer and it would be plug and play. I figured the nav system would just need the antenna. Will I have to buy a new rear view mirror that has the onstar?

Doesn't the Nav system also need a microphone for voice commands? When I had a C6 with OnStar, the microphone for both was on the A pillar. I don't think the OnStar will have anything to do with the Nav. The OnStar antenna was in a block at the top inside of the windshield on the passenger's side of the car. Not sure where the Nav antenna is usually located.

The GPS antenna for the nav system is in the instrument panel and the GPS antenna for OnStar is in the Windshield.

Yep, the voice activated mic is on the A pillar.

Unless you are going to use the voice activation, it really does not need the mike though.

Depending upon year of the nav unit the only problem may be the steering wheel controls would not function. If it is a new unit, or one out of a steering wheel controls year car, then that would not be an issue either.

Hud, etc will all work as advertised.

I'm sure it's not impossible, but I've heard that it is. I know someone who's car was supposed to have it, and they dealer forgot to order it. She went through all kinds of hell trying to get the dealer to put it in for her, and they said it couldn't be done.

Again, I'm not saying impossible. But if it were me, I'd go aftermarket. Frankly they are better units anyway (and I have factory Nav in mine).

The best feature of the factory nav unit is the integration with the HUD. Since your car is a 1LT and doesn't have the HUD I'd recommend going aftermarket. You will get more functionality and the new units install so cleanly that they look OEM. In order to do what you are trying you will need to install the nav head unit, the nav antenna and wire it in to the speed sensor. You won't need the Onstar setup for the factory nav. The nav is integrated with the steering sensor and the speed sensor for dead reckoning navigation when the antenna looses satelites (like going through tunnels and heavily tree lined areas). It won't be impossible but the money you may spend trying to put it in may not be worth the expense vs. your return on investment.

thanks for the replies. I'm glad it will work once I install the HUD, I have found a few HUD kits on the net for just a few hundred. So once I install the HUD and the Nav system it should work but I won't have the voice commands and the steering wheel controls? I could live with that.

When I was looking for a vette I wanted a base model with the HUD and the Nav system. Since I couldn't get that I have to have these options installed.

If it doesn't connect to HUD, it would be useless to me.

I would recommend going aftermarket. First, the HUD you found on the internet for only a "couple hundred dollars" - not possible. It might be a C5 HUD, which wouldn't work. There has been a long running argument in the forum about a "kit" to install a HUD in a C6. Last I heard, the parts weren't even off restriction yet at the parts counter, so you couldn't really build a "kit". And, even if they are off restriction, the parts alone cost more than a "couple hundred dollars." More like a grand or so. Plus, the total dismantlement of your dash to install, the custom wiring harness you'll have to install, etc.

I'd simply go with an aftermarket unit. The AVIC head unit is quite nice.

BTW - this is an old argument, but if you wanted a HUD in your car, why didn't you just order a 3LT car instead of a 1LT car? 3LT wouldn't have cost you that much more and by the time you factor in the HUD costs + labor, the total dismemberment of your dash, etc., you'd have a 3LT almost paid for.
