Need to get an idea on what size duffle bags fit the rear trunk on a vert (with top down). I want 2 of equal size.
Doing museum delivery and I'm hoping to roll this into a tour of the smokey's on my way home.
Need to provide the GF a bag so she can squeeze her usual truck load of stuff into 1 bag.
This is going to be interesting.
Think small and if you want to put the top down, think smaller. I have a coupe so I can't be of much help other than tell you that the covertible storage is 11 cubic feet with the top up and 5 cubic feet with the top down. Any bag that you would use in the overhead of an airplane should fit would be my rule of thumb. I'm sure others can give you some specifics on types and sizes of bags.
48"Lx15"Wx12"D is about what you are working with without scruntching you bags up. This is with the top down. I had a 30" duffel + a roll-aboard in mine on a recent vacation and it was pretty tight. I'd look at getting something really cheap until you get the car home and have a chance to pick out something nicer.
Important edit!! Forgot... Container store carries these flat carriers for folded clothes. You can fold a couple day's nice clothes in one of these and they will slide under the top while it is down. Lifesavers. you can put two in and still have room to slip a small laptop case in under the top (where it will get blistering hot, btw).

Picking up the mrs from the airport in an hour, wanted to take the vert. I just measured for this and placed the bag in the trunk to be 100% sure. You can easily fit two TravelPro Crew5 Rollaboard Suiters (20" or 22") in the trunk of a vert. These bags are also handy for the airplane as they can go wheels-in in the overhead (only 15" space needed). Sort of a pricey brand, but it's durable and functional and what lots of pilots/attendants use.

Just took a trip north
We had to go to a wedding. Packed a small roll case, some plastic bags.
Don't forget, there are two wells that can hold small bags. I also used one of those bags that you pack and then use a vacuum to suck all the air out of. They fit nicely under the top when it is down. We managed to get formal clothes laid on top of the bags and got the trunk lid down w/o damage. The wife had to iron things, but, we would have had to do that no matter what car we took. BTW, it was a blast cruising up the Jersey pike with the top down.
We have 2005 convertible with power top. My wife and I have made three 10 day journeys. The secret is the correct luggage. Get two 22 by 9 by 15 suitcases. I gained extra space by customizing the suit cases. I drilled out the rivets and removed the extendable handle and wheels. I then used a pop riveter with aluminum rivets to replace the rivets. The two cases took just over 1 hour to modify. Cases are roomier and much lighter. They are a close match to the red color of our car and look custom. You can put a great deal in the trunk ahead, on top and at the ends of the suitcases.
