I'm writing from Great Britain. After driving a Peugeot around for a couple weeks in England, Scotland and Wales I can't wait to get back to my C6 in two days! I really hope what is going on here isn't the future for the USA: speed cameras both standing and mobile EVERYWHERE!!!! My only hope is that thousands of dollars of speeding fines don't showup on my credit card in a few weeks. Similarly, here in London the regs are too much! Driving in the "restricted area" cost about $16 US per day. And...if you leave your car parked on the street after 8:30am in some areas...to get it unbooted is $260 (unfortunately, this happened to us because of a miscommunication on the day we were turning in our rental car). Also, because the car when returned to the rental place was not "cleaned and ready to rent," the cleaning cost $90 US. Such are the costs of traveling! On the approximately 2500 miles we put in we didn't see even one Corvette. However, there are lots of Bentleys, Porches and BMWs here in London. Mostly, in the countryside (for those who do have cars) there are smallish things going about 60 mph tops. Great country driving (except for the restrictive cameras etc)...lots of history, wonderful scenery, castles and beautiful country houses. With all the restrictions we are starting to see in the USA, is this the future for the USA? I hope not. Give me an open road and a C6...drive it like you stole it!

I'm afraid it will be within the next 3-5 years. Almost every little (and big) town around me in No TX is installing red light cameras now and experimenting with static speed cameras. As soon as the towns see other towns raking in the dough they have to get their piece. They always say its "For safety", of course... My town had a vote on whether to put in red light cameras and the voters approved it with a 75+% margin.
BTW I have no problems with red light cameras IF the towns don't shorten the yellow light to catch a few extra folks. Many towns around me have been caught doing just that.
Gas is about $8/gallon US. It cost about $100 US to fill the Pugeot. Probably, this is the future (or to a degree) in the USA. You don't often appreciate what you have until you lose it. God Bless the USA and the pursuit of happiness. Freedom!
