Lates iPod connection info from Carlisle GCA rep
I asked the GCA rep at the Team Corvette tent about the aftermarket ipod connection for the Nav radio. He was told to tell consumers that it will be released 4q07. He couldnt give me an exact date but said that Corvette is at the top of the list for the scheduled release of this part/product. He said that it was delayed due to complaints from HHR owners which forced them to stop production and rework the item.. We'll see....
Just to add: The GCA rep did say what we already knew, that the iPod will be completely controlled from the NAV screen and that the iPod will either be stored in the glove compartment or the arm rest. He couldnt be more specific, because he said he didnt know. He was handling out a card that looked like a large iPod. On the back it says that you can navigate through playlists, sort, shuffle and select your music all through the radio controls. He was handing out $50 rebate coupons for GCA purchases through Nov 21, 2007. He said as long as it comes out by Nov 21, I can use it, but no commitment on when it will be released. Sorry, but that's all I know!

I had exactly this conversation with johnodrake yesterday ... that I was concerned there would another launch delay. I understand design, engineering, production, distribution is complicated ... but dang, this doesn't seem too difficult for other manufacturers.

And now for the up side....
At least they have identified a problem and are trying to get if fixed before GA. If they didn't, I am certian that we would be having a thread in October saying that the PAL sucked and that GM was foolish in releasing the product before it was ready.....

Yes, the connectors are the same. But, I think he was talking about intergrating it with the verizon/onstar phone. Don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

IPOD Connection Update
I received the attached note from GMA- a disappointment for sure.
Thank you for your interest in our Personal Audio Link!
The information you read regarding PAL availability for HHR, Cobalt, G5, Solstice and SKY was correct. While it is featured on the HHR Accessories page of chevy.com (http://www.chevrolet.com/hhr/accessories/ select "Interior"). The Cobalt page, pontiac.com and saturn.com have not yet been updated to include this accessory. Note: PAL can also be found on gmaccessorieszone.com.
PAL for Corvette is currently under development. Since our GM vehicles have three distinct serial communications protocols and multiple radio combinations, we don't have a "one size fits all" solution. Now that the product has been released for the first vehicle applications, PAL for Corvette (equipped with Navigation Radio) is one of our top priorities. I don't have the specific timing, but it is scheduled to be released sometime early in the 4th quarter of this year. PAL for Corvette without Navigation Radio will follow later in 2008.
Corvette PAL will initially be released for 2008 and future model years; however, our engineers are aware that there are many owners of past model Corvettes, like yourself, who are also interested in PAL. Additional testing, validation, and possible modifications are required for each radio for each model year, so a feasibility study will be done after our initial Corvette launch to determine if the PAL is compatible with past models. Stay tuned!
PAL will only be available through a GM dealership. Chevy dealers will be notified when PAL has been released for Corvette.
Thanks again for your interest in this very cool accessory.

Spec.Dock
Check this out. I found this in another thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1723115
Port number 7. It talks about Spec.Dock. I've never heard of it but it looks like a nice iPod/iPhone integration. Check out the website:
http://stores.homestead.com/2point5/...POD/Detail.bok
Seems to be lacking documentation and information. Anyone heard of these guys?
