Removal Procedure for 08 Shift ****
Thanks to Modshack, we now know how to remove the 08 shift ****. You must rotate the silver ring counter clockwise and then it and the boot with it will slide down so you can unscrew the phillips screw and get the **** off. DO NOT PULL THE BOOT OFF THE CHROME RING. It is a major hassle to get back on.
Further, if you do pull the boot off, there is a rubber oring that must go back on to hold the boot to the ring. Easiest way that I have found to put it on is to first slide the ring over the boot, then push the chrome ring up through the boot and roll the o ring over the chrome boot. With any luck, no one will be doing this, it took me and my wife a while to get this stupid thing back on.

Just to amplify on Rob145's post a little....There are 2 pins inside the chrome ring that ride in the 2 channels on either side of the **** base as shown in the picture. You need to grasp the ring and boot combo (don't pull the boot down as Rob said!!) and rotate COUNTERCLOCKWISE and then slide the ring and boot down to expose a Phillips head screw (M5x.8, 5mm long). The screw is blue loctited in so be sure you get a good bite on it before trying to remove. the **** will then just slip right off. I ended up cutting 1" off the shift shaft and mounting my Favorite Momo ****...

Thanx for the explanations and photo. Gerardo will want to copy this information for his shift boots and website, and I suppose that now the shift boots will have a core charge so Gerardo can put the O-ring and chrome ring on his boots.
