I highly doubt there is anything to be concerned about. I saw the post that you are talking about that mentioned that and more than likely it is standard idle sound. Drone that is annoying comes into the drone zone which is between 1500 and 1900 RPM. I haven't heard anyone complain about that yet. I should have my car tomorrow so I can report back personally then.
I have experienced no drone, even at idle. However, they can be a little 'too loud' for me when cruising up and down hills on the freeway. The NPP is much louder than my Magnaflows on my C5. I love them. My wife says it sounds like a truck...oh well! I find that the NPP, paddle shift, and Mild2Wild are a winning combination. If I had it to do over again I would definately order NPP.
I'm close to ordering my 08 and was going to go with the performance exhaust. 6hp is 6hp after all.
My concern is that I'm reading here about a drone, particularly at idle.
I HATE having a drone. I absolutely cannot live with it.
So, how bad is it? Should I pass on the exhaust? In daily driving the 6hp won't matter.
Any thoughts? I'll find one with and one without to listen to, but value the opinions here.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Those who mentioned a drone at idle had the system manually set open for more noise.
I'm sure GM has it setup right for everyday use. I'm so sure, I ordered one without hearing it.. I'll know in a few weeks.
Get the NPP and Mild2Wild! You'll love it. It gives you the best of both worlds. There is no drone at idle.
When we took our Buyer's Tour, some of the guys at the end of the QC checks, right before they start it and drive it off the line told me they thought that the NPP might give some of the AM folks a run for their money.

If your definition of drone is a harmonic vibration at specific RPM's, then the NPP does not drone. If your definition of drone is something other than that you need to go listen first before you purchase the NPP.
However, given what you have written, I wouldn't order it because if you don't like the sound then you just wasted a lot of money and may blame the forum for your bad luck. Sorry if I am offending you.
NPP was a last minute option addition on my order. I told my wife that the NPP saves gas and makes the engine last longer since there is less restriction on the exhaust. The NPP will pay for itself in 2-3 years in gas savings alone
This is not exactly an accurate statement but it works!
I have the NPP on my Z51 convertible with manual transmission....and I love it. I added a switch so that I can make them quiet when I like and loud when I like. In normal mode they make a nice rumble when you first start the engine and then the system quiets down....then when you hit 3500 RPM the really start singing. With the switch open...they are loud all of the time....I have not experienced any drone at all at any speed...but they do make pop-ing sounds when you let up on the gas. I think they are a GREAT addition. But, you should take a ride in one to see if you like the sound.
There is no drone with NPP with the flaps closed. It DOES get louder with the flaps open, but it's easy to drive the car such that the flaps just stay closed if you want.
If you pull the fuse or get the M2W switch, there is drone just above idle up to about 2200rpm, but if you don't like it, just don't leave the flaps open.
I had a rumble at idle in gear but no drone with factory exhaust manifolds. Certainly louder at idle than the standard exhaust. I have since installed Kooks headers with catted X pipe and I now have a mild drone in the 1500 +/- rpm range even with the butterflies closed. I feel it is acceptable althought somewhat annoying. If you want quite then the standard system might be the way to go.

Nope, you're not offending me. You're right!
The key is to listen to it. I tried a set of Corsas on my 01 and hated them. It REALLY had a drone. A little louder I'd like.
I'll stop in a dealer and have them fire them both up.
