Even though cost and weight are two of the high priorites the design team had for the Corvette, power and performance were at the top of the list. It would be hard for me to imagine that they would be willing to compromise on the material or wire gage used in the plug wires for the sake of weight or cost.

If you are running the stock exhaust manifolds, keep the factory wires. They're good. If you switch to long tube headers you might have a clearance problem and burn a wire. If so, MSD's are also good and can be bent to provide clearance around the hot exhaust primary tubes.
On my old LS1 with headers two wires were too close. On my current LS7 one would have burned up within minutes.
