So I am sitting here looking at the forum once again at everyones corvettes. Still don't have one.....waiting on the right time financially. My 8 year old daughter is looking with me and she asked a question I should know the answer to. I guess I never thought about it or I have just never heard the answer. She asked what the name corvette means or how the car got it's name. Can you folks answer for her and I please.
A Corvette is a light warship. It's role was mainly support, and it was a fast, attack ship somewhat more heavily armed than the modern day gunboat.
From Wiki: "During the Age of Sail, corvettes were one of many types of smaller warships. They were very closely related to sloops-of-war. The role of the corvette consisted mostly of coastal patrol, fighting minor wars, supporting large fleets, or participating in show-the-flag missions."
BTW: I wonder how many people got the reference but, in Star Wars episode IV, A New Hope, the ship that Princess Leia was fleeing in was a "Corellian Corvette" class, and I think if you look closely that row of engine lights at the rear of the spaceship you will find them very familiar.

Ah heck I dunno, let me know when you find out. The ship is sort of cool, take a visit............."Corvette, named for a sleek British submarine chaser, has always added to Chevrolet’s luster even though it’s a tiny percentage of the automaker’s sales."
