Just got a new C6 a month ago--had a C5and sold it.Seems like the A6 tranny its not nearly as robust as the C5 coming from a standing start--almost feels like its starting in 2nd or 3rd.does anyone know the shift points for each of the gears.didnt want to bring it in and hear the service guy say they all do that without checking with the Forum--thanks
If you put it in Sport mode and use the paddles at all then when you come to a stop it will, in fact, only downshift to 2nd. If you put it in Sport mode and do not touch the paddles, it will downshift to 1st.

In addition, if you drive with it in "D", it will also downshift to 1st and start from a dead stop in 1st.
Note that in "S" mode without the paddles, it will go to 2nd gear early, at approximately 8 mph.
When i start from a dead stop in D,it doesn shift till i hit 50,then it shifts and it keeps in that gear, whatever it is until 80,at whcih time i take my foot off full throttle,My old c5 would shift 3 times before it hit 60,so im thinking theres an issue with shift, but not familiar with the A6. bob

Yes, there's definitely something not right about your tranny. I've not paid that close attention to mine in D, but I know it shifts 2 or 3 times before it gets to 50. I'll try to watch it a little when I go out this afternoon and let you know later about what speed it shifts.
EDIT: You're missing at least one shift. I have a chart I made after I calculated the rpms vs speed in each gear for the A6. 50 mph in 1st gear would be 6500 rpms - that's redline. AT 50 mph, if you're in 2nd gear, that would be 3750 rpm, 3rd gear = 2450 rpm, 4th gear = 1850 rpm, 5th gear = 1350 rpm, 6th gear = 1050 rpm.
Check your rpms at 50 mph and compare it to the above chart to see what gear you're in at 50 mph.
Bob, I was in the car by myself, driving in moderate traffic, so I did not get the exact mph when all the shifts occurred. However, from my short drive this afternoon, I did observe the following speeds, rpms, and APPROXIMATE shift points while in "D" and babying the gas pedal.
I'm sure you're aware those shift points and rpms will be different if you're getting on the gas a little. Also, in "S" without the paddles, the owner's manual says and it seems to be true to me, the tranny will hold the lower gears a little longer if you're "getting on it."
thanks so much--ill do what Jim suggested and see exactly what the rpms are at each shift point, and how fast im going--ill re-post after i do that without getting a speeding ticket.bob
