not to confuse the issue, but i couldn't get any power off either of the pink wires, i did though get power on my test light from the orange wire and thats what i am using for my V1.
Im going to check tonite to see if the day/nite feature is working properly.

Hey - thanks a million !
you must really know your wiring and know your shop manual to have found that - I had no luck at all.

thanks for taking all the time to help ! Hope I can repay the favor some time.

Well, thanks to shopdog, I could find the actual mirror "pinout" diagram in the shop manual. {side note - These manuals are HORRIBLE - man, it would be difficult to make the index more useless if you tried ! }

Here it is. He is right, of course, that the #13 is the correct contact to use (and this is the one I used). It's just a power supply to the mirror - there's no way a connection here could have harmed the internal circuitry of the mirror. This image will give a listing of what the other contact pins are. I've colored the location where the two pink wires are, and where the orange wire is found (pin #6).

It appears that the orange wire is a supply wire for the "courtesy lamps", which I would guess are what I'd call "map lights". I'd guess that this is a safe place to get a hot wire for your detector also.

NOTE: when you're sticking your "contact probes" in, you are doing it from the REAR of this connector, so you have to turn the picture around and view it from the rear - explanation is on my web page - click on "escort"

You guys have been fantastic in walking me through this.
I'm thinking that it IS possible I made a split second wiring error a couple of years ago that fried the mirror, and just didn't discover it until recently. I'm now really really convinced that we're all correct - that a proper connection to #13 cannot cause harm.

jonparks - we'll wait to hear what happens when you get your mirror looked at -- I'd suggest you unplug your radar connection so as not to give the dealer an easy way to affix blame to you, and then stop investigating to find the real cause of your troubles.

I agree that the indexes are nearly useless. But for electrical issues always go first to the Master Component Locator table starting on page 8-956. This will then direct you to the correct pages to find pinouts and schematics. Since I know this, it only took me a few seconds to locate the mirror wiring info.
