The First Year

I’m coming up on one year of ownership of my 2007 Corvette. For the record, I have a 2007 Lemans Blue Coupe, 2LT Ebony interior, MN6, Z51. It now has 9500 miles on it. This time last year I had already placed my order and had a build date and (maybe) a VIN number or build number? Don’t remember.
As far as mods, I’ve made nearly none. The only “performance” mod I’ve made is installing a CAGS eliminator. Easy to do and has worked perfectly since install. The only other mods I’ve done is, with the 2LT I only had a single CD. So I had a USA SPEC iPod adaptor installed. That was installed a few months ago, or so, and it’s been a great addition to the car’s entertainment system. Hours and hours of music in a very compact environment. The only other “mod” I’ve done, is I bought a protective cover that rolls out and covers the back of the car to prevent scratches.
First the bad, because there is very little bad. The handle for adjusting the back seat angle is absolute crap. The handle is a thin, flimsy piece of plastic that feels as if it just wants to break at any given moment. And, as something that the user(s) of the car would often interact with, I would have thought Chevy could have come up with something better. The center console (between the seats) gets warm/hot. From what I’ve read, this is common on all corvettes. It’s not a big deal to me, but worth mentioning.
Now the good. First off, I haven’t had any problems with this car whatsoever. Let me repeat that, I haven’t had any problems with this car whatsoever. No top problems, the tires are wearing fine. The fit and finish is perfect inside and out. No nothing.
I absolutely love this car. It is a very, very impressive car in every way. It’s a car that you can easily hop in and drive to the grocery store. It’s also a car that you can just hop in and drive 400 or 500 miles and enjoy every mile of it. It’s comfortable for both driver and passenger and it’s fun and easy to drive. From the Bay Area, trips throughout Northern California are a blast and going to Southern California is fun as easy as well. I really want to take it on a longer trip, say up to Montana or Washington one of these days.
It gets (to me) amazing gas mileage. Around town in typically in the low to mid 20’s (my jeep is typically at or real close to 12 mpg.). On trips, say 200 miles or more, I’ve gotten as high as 29+ mpg, but usually I’m in the 27+ mpg range. Again, the jeep’s getting about 14.5 mpg bouncing along at 67 mph, while the vette’s purring along at 79 mph.
As far as performance, I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not a world class driver, but this car performs better than I had ever hoped for. It flies like a bat out of hell and handles like it’s on rails. I’ve been lucky enough to drive it a little through the Sierra’s (Tahoe, Yosemite), and in and around the wine country. I’m used to worrying about being able to pass other cars in passing lanes. To me it’s amazing, not only how fast the vette passes other cars, but how quickly they fade from total view… never to be seen again, unless there’s a lunch stop. It’s a car that’s real easy to get carried away with… go easy through first, then about 3000 rpms in second, hit it, hit third, and the world that was behind you is gone.
In the past I’ve owned a BMW 535iS and a 72 Corvette Stingray. My new vette, who’ll be one year old in just a few weeks, is by far my favorite car. I hope to have it for many more years to come and enjoy it for thousands miles to come as well.
Best,
07Lemans
