Well, I got my "Free" Nav Update today and popped in the Eastern US DVD. This year, the Version 4.0 update takes 2 DVDs (Eastern US/Canada and Western). OK, so I anxiously await the screen while sitting in my garage and then it comes on. Nope, still doesn't know my street even a year later. My Lexus knew the street 3 years ago. What's with GM? I even put my street into the Internet site that was specifically out there to identify missing Nav information a year ago.
Great job Nav Update Center. Way to convince customers to pay for a future Nav Update.
I don't remember seeing it in the last two disc update, but earlier updates indicated that detailed mapping was only available in some metropolitan areas. The map for my development is incorrect and has been that way from the get go. Garmin uses city select maps and that is also wrong in my case.
In general, I have found the nav to be pretty accurate if one understands the limitations of the data base.

Well, the street that goes by my Cul de sac is labelled correctly. I'm in a new development that first started in early 2003. Funny how things work out. I'm sure glad I didn't fork out $175 to get this update. Of course, in this case, I got what I paid for

Same here.
The update still does not recognize my entire street that is 3 years old but, my Garmin has no problem.
It is pretty sad when you have nav. and still have to take your Garmin along as back up

Fartronaut,
I believe that the following link is the company that actually does the map updates for our Nav Disks. Go the this link and report your address missing and I bet you will get it updated. I reported my not being there 2 years ago and it has been on the last 2 Nav Disks. http://mapfeedback.teleatlas.com/index.htm
I don't understand, are you saying you can't find your own street? If so, I think you have bigger issues to worry about
Seriously, can't you just find the approximate location on the map and mark that as a memory point, then you can set that to the little home box whenever you want to go home? Better yet, when sitting in your driveway, just set wherever the map screen says as your home location. I certainly can understand it being a bit of a pain, but assuming we are talking about a small street and surely you know where to go once it gets you right in the vicinity of your house, it shouldn't really be a problem.
Speaking of Lexus, my wifes NAV in her rx400 takes us down deadend streets and stuff and tells us to keep going. I would have driven over the grass but wife never likes that idea.
Anyway, only real reason I would update is so that the places of interest are more current. My wifes nav is like 2-3 years old, its an 06 and never had an update, so a lot of places don't show up. I can live without a street or two.
Perfect example of why I would never buy the NAV again, and don't even use the one I have... I got spoiled w/ the NAV in the wife's Infiniti M45. The NAV that comes in our vettes is archaic and not even voice activated. How tolerant we (who have the passion for vettes) have become of The Generals' shortcomings on materials, workmanship and quality control
Neighborhood is over 7 years old. Ver2 did not show it, I now have the new and unimproved 4.0. The road behind me shows, a younger street by 6 months, but not mine??? Save yr money if you are thinking of purchasing the up grade.

THanks for the link. I reported it once again. I've reported it now three times and maybe it will take another year to show up. I did notice that they now had my street in their database, but the house number was in the wrong location. Since they have the street now, I will assume they did it after the database was ported to GM's NAV update for 2007.

It's more of a principle than anything else. My wife and I are in the Real Estate business (now that I retired, I joined her). We end up going to every street in the world that we've never been to and an up-to-date NAV system is really helpful. I may have to get a Garmin just to keep current -and- that's a real shame. The Lexus RX takes us to some weird routes, but it usually gets us there. I think many municipalities don't provide updates when they close roads.

Can't argue there. I'll think of this as GM's contribution to spurring on the aftermarket Nav community. My NAV does have voice activation in the 2007, but maybe due to OnStar having already put in the microphone pickup.

My 07 without OnStar also has voice activation. They must be installing the microphone if the order has either OnStar or Nav. I have mixed emotions about the voice activation, sometimes it does not understand me and does things I would not expect.
