Why doesn't the interior trim kit, with the body colored console and pods, come with matching steering wheel control inserts... I really want to change the interior trim to the Monterey Red, but I want the steering wheel grey plastic to match !! Anyone ever seen this done, or know where to get ?? I thought about asking our local body shop if they could just remove and paint/clear them.. What do you guys think ??
I order my DSOM paint from touch up paint website,I did not have a clue How to take them off so I mask(cover) the whole steering wheel and paint the while the were on. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...Picture285.jpg
Apsis...how you guys coming along with your colored overlays?
Our mold for the Overlay Spoke Cap with or without Radio Control is ready. We are making samples of the carbon look, burlwood look, color matching...etc to show you guys.
We are working on the exterior color matching formula now. Once the formula is done then we can go for production. So it's rear the final line.

Glad to hear this. I'm in line for these in arctic white.

It's my understanding that GM does not sell these parts separately. Most body shops will not even mix paint to do such a small item. Overlays are a problem since they increase the thickness, look like they are an add on and may hamper the controls on the newer steering wheels. If anyone is interested I will be offering a package shift ****, door bezel, ebrake cap and steering wheel trip package using real OEM paint.
To the op
You might try forum vendor C5 Kidd for painting yours. They are pretty easy to take off, even with steering wheel controls.
I just changed my steering wheel (Caravaggio) the other day and everything is pretty easy to work on in there. I could probably take the covers out, with radio controls, in less than 5 minutes. You could reassemble everything without the (covers/controls0 and still use the car while yours are being painted. Heck the paint match wouldn't even have to be real close

Is that a MN shift **** or are you thinking auto? Any pictures yet?

either one, this process will require the removal of the parts from your car and sent to me. so a 1-2 week downtime would be required (in the winter or vacation time). It just does not make sense to order new parts to paint since GM only sells the door lock bezels and wants like $70 for them (unpainted), all the rest you must order the ****, wheel, e-brake

THanx !!
Greetings
The parts are not available separately. You must buy the entire steering wheel in order to get these pieces. Will a little time and effort you can take them off and paint them. I even took the paddle shifts switches apart for paint.
I have a post yesterday where I attached pics of my AO interior. I had to use 5 different forum vendors, as well as do some of my own painting, to ultimately get my interior trim, door release bezels, steering wheel, and shift **** color coordinated. The vendors are great support but no one does it all. It seems impractical to me to take the Vette out of service to send parts to someone to paint, but I doubt there is enough volume of business in every color to motivate one vendor to do it all with stocked parts, particularly since the wheel inserts are not sold separately by GM. In the end, it was kind of fun going through all of it, though

I'd be interested, but there are a couple of problems. First, I don't want two weeks without the use of my car. There is no off-season driving in Houston. The second is the main reason I want the overlays to begin with. I don't want to have to fool around taking the air bag out to replace the plastic inserts. I am interested in the painted door lock bezels though.
