I was looking at a C6 today and I noticed that the green arrow to start the engine was on, but when I pressed to start it, the DIC displayed "No Key Fob found" and sure enough, we did not have a key FOB near the car, so my question is, why did the green light come on, on the start button?
My ordered car came in late today, so they could not "deliver" the car, but I looked at it, but the FOB's were in theory not near the car, but that light came on I wondered if they were actuaolly nearby.
I was just concerned that perhaps, they were near the car and I accidently left it in "acc" mode and by Monday, the battery would be dead. Not bad except that BOTH "mechanical" keys were in the console, out of their FOB's. . .
But since it did not start and ask for the FOB, it sounds like they were not near the car and so I did not have it in acc mode and it sounds like it will be okay.

Not to worry ...
9ACC (OFF/ACCESSORY): When the engine is off, press this button to place the vehicle in accessory mode. This mode allows you to use things like the radio and the windshield wipers while the engine is off. After being in accessory mode for about 20 minutes, the vehicle will automatically enter RAP or OFF ...
On the bottom of the rocker switch there are two indicator lights, and one of these will be on after the engine has been shut down, and until you leave the car. When the ignition system is shutdown by pushing on the lower part of the rocker switch, the red light is lighted...when the lower part of the switch is pushed again, accessory power is turned on and the yellow indicator light is lighted. Push the lower portion of the switch again, it goes back to the red indicator.
After each ignition cycle (i.e. startup/shutdown/driver door open and close), the first thing that happens when you open the driver door is the green start switch lights so you can find it. It's just like every other car with a lighted ignition switch that comes on when you open the door. The lighted green switch DOES NOT MEAN that the car senses start authorization...you need the FOB for that.
If you are able to get into the car without the FOB, it was not locked. This is probably because the options are set to manual locking, and it wasn't locked after the last use. Review the owners manual...you can set it up to lock automatically after seven seconds if the FOB is removed from the immediated area of the driver door. If desired, you can have it confirm locking by flashing the lights or honking the horn.

Very good explanation.
Minor point. If you program auto-locking, it locks approximately 8 seconds after the door is shut, although removal of the fob is also required.

On my 2005 the green ring will come on without a fob present as long as the power is present to the interior such as with the door open.
OK, after over 2 years of ownership and plenty of time to read the manual I know that I should know this, but I don't: Is it necessary to have the fob nearby in order to put the car into "accessory" mode? I've never tried it without the fob since I hace my DIC options set up to automatically lock the car upon exiting. (I can't get into the car without the fob.)
You'll want to double check your car is actually locking like you think it is pretty soon after you get it. I recall reading a post where a guy didn't even realize his door was open to anybody until he figured it out by accident. Leave the fob in the house and try to open the car door just to make sure it's really locked.
