50% is not very dark. I don't think it's worth it for looks or function. I have 20% rear and 30% sides. No side tinting is legal in CA, but if you don't go overboard you'll never be bothered.
50% may not look very dark but you will get around 30-35% heat rejection and 99% UV protection with a quality film . You just have to decide if it is worth it to you. I think it is better than nothing. Good luck.
I was (read: was) looking into 25-35% tint on my sides and rear (until the installer screwed up my glass - see my other post on this). I looked at the 50 - not worth the effort. If you want tint, you'll need darker.
Remember you have to add on some percentage as the C6 windows are already tinted a bit. So 50% really becomes 45% or 40% or ??% (anyone know the value of the factory tint?). I run 30% side and 20% rear film (or actually about 20/25% sides and 10/15% rear) and have never had a LEO look my way twice (for tint at least ). (BTW 35/20 is max. legal in TX)
A local tint shop had some official looking letters from the state of DE that explained most cars are approximately 35% from the factory; thus adding ANY tint to the side would make them illegal. I've never been stopped in 20 years for having 35% on any side windows in DE, VA, PA, OK, CA, SD. (military).
l have limo tint all around. In the Arizona desert it serves its purpose. The Leos have never questioned me about it even when I have been stopped for speeding. Lucky, I guess.
I honestly dont think you need to be concerned if you are not doing limo (5%). If you put on 30%, the LEOs can still see in your car, even if it's just a little and that's all that matters to them. They don't like coming up on a car they can not see in. My hubby is LEO, along with most of our friends, so this is how I know. The Vette looks much much better with tint, so put at least 30% on.
