I am comparing UK/US petrol octane values and am somewhat confused.
Standard octane available in the UK is 95, with up to 99 readily available.
Does the US use a different method of octane value calculations.?
Its of some relevence when considering tune-up via engine management changes.
I wouldn't count on the U.S. doing anything like you do in europe, even if it makes perfect sense!!! Here, gas is 87-LOW OCTANE,89-MID GRADE,91-93 HIGH OCTANE.
The reasons behind the question relates to the fact that I have 07 model corvettes imported directly from the US (non-european models) that are "California emmisions compliant"
I'm sure that this has the probability of reducing the available bhp and I would like to "adjust" the California emmisions out of the equation.
At the moment, I do not wish to involve myself in any significant hardware changes, so there must be software changes that can be made within the PCM engine management to remove the dead hand of such stringent emmisions control.
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.
To help yourself overcome the downside to all the emissions crap, get yourself a set of headers w/hi-flow cats and a tune, such as HP TUNER or DIABLO PREDATOR.You can then adjust timing, injector slope and a whole bunch of stuff to get the power back to the wheels.Oh,and A VARARAM air intake will help too!
