Default Outside Temperature Sensor

Does anybody know where the sensor is for the outside temp reading that is on the dash? Mine sometimes is real close but other times it seems off and I am just curious as to where it is actually picking it up from.

It's on the passenger side of the radiator. Look down near the bottom and you will see the wire.

Somewhere near the front of the radiator. Don't forget there's a delay built into the readings. 2006 owner's manual, pages 3-28 and 3-29.

There is also a sensor located behind the front bumper.
This sensor reads the outside air temperature and
helps to maintain the temperature inside the vehicle.
Any cover on the front of the vehicle could give a false
reading in the temperature.

If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 10 mph (16 km/h) for
five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h) for
two and a half minutes.
These delays prevent false readings. If the temperature
goes down, the outside temperature will be shown
when you start the vehicle. If it has been turned off for
less than three hours, the temperature will be recalled
from the previous vehicle operation.
There is also an inside temperature sensor located to the
left of the ignition switch. The automatic climate control
system uses this sensor to receive information, so if you
block or cover it, the system will not function properly.

Haven't actually looked on my C6 but it was just inside the radiator intake under the front bumper on the passenger side of my C5. It was a small black probe about the size of a wooden pencil but only a couple of inches long. HTH

Get down and look in the front air damn. To your left as you are looking in there (passenger side) you will see a metal plastic nipple protruding through the radiator shroud. That is the temp sensor. To get to it you remove a plastic push pin clip on the passenger side radiator shroud.

BY the way, I have had the same issue. I also replaced the temp sensor and it still reads a few degrees off sometimes. Sometimes it's dead on..Unsure why, but since it is only a few degrees once in a while, I am not sweating it too much. Hope that helps.
Cheers

My 2000 FRC's outside temp didn't read the temp today. First time I've ever noticed that it isn't reading the outside temp correctly. I had it on the road for 3 or more hours today and it wouldn't budge off 54-55 degrees. The outside temp was mid to high 70s.

I ran the Vette through a brushless car wash this morning before I put it on the road. Is it possible the car wash screwed up the temperature sensor ?

Any thoughts ?

For a 2000 you might have better luck in the C5 section. It is possible, but I doubt that a run through the carwash would affect the reading.

I have sprayed off my C6 and got the sensor wet enough that it didn't register correctly for about 15 minutes. This has happened 2 or 3 times.

Sorry Guys....I thought I WAS in the C5 section.

BTW....Talon....I don't believe the carwash would be a problem, it never has been in the past. I'm thinking the sensor just finally pooped-the-bed ! In the meantime, I'll wake-up and head on over to the C5 section.

Thanks Talon for telling me I was in the wrong section....OOPS !

This happens every time I wash my car. Once it dries seems to be OK.

Aside from being on the wrong forum, it just might be a good reason to buy a C6. See all the fun you're missing.

I've noticed this issue as well, and the sensor has never been wet. I checked my reading with a friends '04 C5, and mine read 2-5 degrees higher, seemed 2-5 higher than the forecased temp. I think mine reads a bit high, but will not address the issue now, I'll wait for a 10 degree variance.
