Default Dbs?

I've seen people post about DBS. Besides the car not starting, what are the symptoms of DBS? Does the DIC display messages like: 80mph maximum speed, shocks inoperable, or no key fob detected?

I tried to charge the battery, but no luck. I can't get the exterior lights to shut off.

The phenomenon known here as DBS (where the battery is completely drained due to the car's electrical system not shutting down properly) occurs only on 2005 models with manual transmission. An afflicted car ends up with a battery that is so far run down after just a day or so that there's not enough power to start the car. (In some cases, there's not even enough power to open the door.) When my car had it (twice), I was able to get in but not start the car; it had been less than 24 hours since I had driven the car. Upon trying to start it, my DIC said "No Fob Detected".

According to your profile your Corvette is a 2007. In that case, it is not susceptible to DBS. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, the cause is elsewhere.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I will have to take it to the dealer.

What a bummer. I just washed it yesterday and put "Mother's" chrome polish on the mags, and the weather is great.

Some have posted here that had problems getting the INTERIOR lights to shut off, but I think your post about being unable to get the EXTERIOR lights to shut off is the first I've seen.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is required.

The exterior lights did finally shutoff, but I still can't start the car.

This may be a longshot, but you might give it a try: Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Then reconnect it and either charge the battery overnight (1st choice) or jump start the car. If everything operates normally, you likely had a computer glitch that was reset by disconnecting the battery. If not, a trip to the dealer will be necessary. Good luck.

I had to have it towed. The local dealership did not have a certified Corvette mechanic, so I had to have it towed about 25 miles to another Chevy dealer. It cost $150.00. My insurance covered $120.00 of it. They seem to think it is the battery, but I guess I will have to wait to confirm that.

I thought all Chevy dealerships had Corvette certified mechanics.

The exact same thing happened to a neighbor's '07. When I saw him last, we had put a charger on it. I don't know what happened past that, but at the time, he was on the outside, couldn't get in, and the outside lights were all on. My '07 has not had this problem.

The service representative told me it was a problem with the shifter. Has anyone else had this problem?

On 2005 models only with manual transmission you must shift to reverse when shutting down to prevent draining the battery. I'm not aware of any tie between the shifter and battery drain on a 2007, though. Did the dealer give you any details?

Incorrect. In 2005, the C6 had an issue with the computers not shutting down if the shifter wasn't left in reverse at shutdown. The computers ran and ran, and it killed the battery quite quickly. A reflash was issued in 2006 to address this issue.

DBS also affected 2006 A6's, but it was a different cause (obviously - no shifter in the A6). I know - 3 attacks, flatbed tows, new batteries, etc. A reflash was issued for this in late 2006 (December, I believe, since mine was done in January).

What does DBS look like? Well, it depends on the battery's charge when you get to it. If it's totally dead, nothing at all happens (duh). But, if there is a small charge on it, some things might work, many won't, and it appears as if the car is going crazy - dash goes nuts, lights won't work properly, etc.

I haven't heard of any 2007's having DBS, but you could have a power-draining problem like a bad door module, a bad BCM computer, or something else that is drawing on the battery. Make sure you aren't leaving things like a radar detector or cell phone plugged-in. Take the car to the dealer and have them check for a battery draw on the car. Make sure all the reflashes are in the computer.

I saw my neighbor yesterday with his '07's DBS. The dealer found that the added on XM Radio was somehow drawing enough current that it was draining the battery. They disconnected it and it appeared that the car was then Ok. He said this was a radio from XM, and since it wasn't in the car when he bought it, of course its not covered under warranty.

Then your neighbor’s car did not have DBS. It was an improper hook up or a defective radio. This was not the car/battery fault.

It actually had nothing to do with the battery. According to the service representative, it was a shifter problem. The actual service ticket states: Faulty shifter assembly.

They replaced the shifter assembly: control and ****.

It's nice to have my "ride" back.
