I realize this is a rather discusting topic, but I just got my new vet and I already had to dodge two road kills. I read here the air dam provides only 3.5" clearance. Could anyone here provide any exprience with hitting one? How bad is it?
No experience with the road kill yet, although we seem to have our share in this general area.
However, the height of the air dam above the road does seem to vary a little from C6 to C6. Also, it's at least a little flexible and pretty sturdy. I think some have said here that if all you wipe out under there is the air dam, replacing it is not too expensive.
Going to Gattlingburg 2 weekends ago, 10:30pm, I-26 just inside the NC state line and raining very hard, there was a that dreaded carcus in the road. It was never alive, it was a huge chunk of 18 wheeler rubber. My wife was driving, she did have even time to flentch. Ran over it with the left front tire. Sound like we ripped the whole underside out. Oh well, too late now, car still going ok so we made it into Asheville where it had stopped raining. The only damage I could see was the driver side 1/3 of the air dam was gone. In the end that was it. It cost $13.00 to replace it. I did not know any part of a Vette was $13.
I had a deal with my wife, You wreck it, I get a Z-06. Crap! that did not qualify

PS
On our last trip to Gattlenburg, she made her own road KILL. She ran "over" a big bear. Luckly we were in our 4x4 long bed F350. Still over $2000 in damage. The bear was less of a thump to the F350 than the tire tread was to the Vette. But, I promise the Vette bump "hurt" worse untill I saw she was ok

Install a lift kit and call it Z71 or just watch the road while you are driving, i know the car puts a good grin on your face, but remember, you are driving.

Three weeks after getting my '05 coupe, while passing an 18-wheeler at about 85mph, I ran over a dead dear that was laying across my lane...
The air dam took a little damage and there was blood, guts and fur all over the underside of the car and even on the rear fascia.
